... lager process, I'm not sure on the technicalities but I'm sure there's someone out there with the right story. What emerges however is a darker brew rather like an IPA, without an overpowering bitterness like some ales but also without the aftertaste of some German beers (Holsten inparticular - the genuine Holsten, that is). I first came across Diebels Alt and altbier in general when I went to stay in Dusseldorf in 1979. My then girlfriend had moved there from the UK. The discovery of this brew was an added bonus to seeing her again after so many months apart! Alt is only brewed in Dusseldorf and is I think a variation on the lager process, I'm not sure on the technicalities but I'm sure there's someone out there with the right story.
