Advantages: Tastes very nice, refreshing, fizzy, no calories or fat
Disadvantages: Can go flat quite quickly
It has been a glorious day today and I have felt very thirsty as I got some order in the garden after the recent wet and blustery weather.
My cold drink of choice has always been Coca Cola, but since being diagnosed with diabetes I have had to cut my sugar consumption down (although you probably would not believe it if you read some of my sugar laden food reviews!) so I have made the switch to Diet Coke.
I was dreading it when I bought my very first bottle as 'diet' drinks to me have always equated to tasteless and dull beverages, but I have been pleasantly surprised with this one.
To me Diet Coke tastes nothing at all like regular Coca Cola. It has a slightly more acidic flavour which is in part to do with how fizzy this drink is. It has a more watery flavour than normal Coca Cola but this is nice because the lack of sugar means that I can taste the real refreshing flavour of my drink.
It is very refreshing in the hot weather, more so I think than normal Coca Cola where the sugar seems to clog the drink down and actually makes it more of a snack than a drink! It's very fizzy which again makes this one of the most refreshing drinks I have drunk in a long time. It does make me burp a little bit though!
You can buy Diet Coke in 500ml bottles (which I do) and it costs 89p like this, or it's quite regularly on offer at 2 bottles for £1.50. Alternatively you can buy it in 330ml cans (55p) or 2 litre bottles which costs about £1.89. I never buy the big bottles though because I think Diet Coke goes flat quite quickly and I cannot get through a big bottle quick enough to prevent this.
The good thing about Diet Coke is there are no calories OR fat in it so you can drink it to your hearts content while you are dieting - even if you're not watching your weight then cutting back on your sugar intake can only be a good thing.
Summary: My favourite cold drink at the moment.
