Advantages: Great taste, Low fat

Disadvantages: Containes Chemicals and is slightly addictive

I have always been a fan of fizzy drinks and used to drink regular coke in abundance throughout my school years, I switched to diet when I was about 16 in the hope of shifting a few pounds but just couldn't get used to the change in taste...now 6 years on and I could not imagine ever drinking regular coke again. The sugar content makes the drink way too sweet and leaves a thick sugar coating feeling on your teeth...bleh!

Diet coke is a "sparkling low calories soft drink" according to the label. It comes in various size bottles and cans from the standard 330ml cans to mini fridge size, and 500ml, 1L, 1.5L and 12L bottles.

Cans are silver with the Cola-Cola logos and appropriate writings in red, as are the labels on the bottles. These include the list of ingredients, any promotions and nutritional information.

Nutritional Information:

Calories 1.0 Kcal
Sugar 0.0g
Fat 0.0g
Saturates 0.0g
Salt 0.01g

You can see from this why it's a diet drink.

Most importantly, taste, I cannot actually put into word WHAT diet coke tastes like. It doesn't remind me of anything I can compare it to besides anything Cola flavoured, just minus the sugar. All I can say is it is refreshing and light. I prefer it served chilled straight from the fridge, especially on a warm day.

I have never been disappointed with a bottle/can of coke and it tends to be very consistent.

I drink this a lot more than I think I should, and have heard rumours that certain ingredients (Aspartemine) are both addictive and have effects on mental health, being linked to dementia and brain tumours, not being a scientist, I cannot comment on the truth of these claims, but it is something to consider if drinking a lot. The caffeine content is also a factor that may put some people off. Diet coke has apparently 45.6g of caffeine (compared to 80.2g in Red bull) so still quiet strong. I actually like this fact as it is one of the only things I drink with caffeine in, so it gives me a little boost.

Overall I would recommend this drink to anyone who is looking for an alternative refreshing low calorie drink. I have happily been drinking it for year (with no craziness to date) and will continue to do so.

Summary: A nice refreshing drink!
