========
INTRODUCTION

The first proper relationship I had was with diet coke; I used to spend my hot summer days straight after school running; I was exhausted after running down and needed a perfect drink to quench my thirst. Diet Coke. It would also be a perfect companion when reading my book; I'd hold the book and drink from the can at the same time. Thankfully the relationship never got too unhealthy; the most I'd consume would be a several cans a day. It has been a godsend, seeing me through the university year where I'd need instant caffeine and I wouldn't have any coffee in the kitchen. The fact it has almost 1 calorie per can was a bonus as I was already eating enough in my revision mode!

Diet coke is one of the most well-known drinks in the entire world; after the regular coke. It is a sugar free soft drink produced by the Coca-Cola company, released in 1982. Previously created with saccharin, but after the sweetener aspartame become widely available in the US, Coca-Cola began to use this to sweeten the drink.

There are many variants of diet coke, I have personally tried a few of them and always have returned to the original. I don't know if Coca-Cola is trying to hard to be different/unique but their list of variants is massive! Diet Coke Caffeine-Free, Diet Coke with Lemon, Diet Coke with Lime, Diet Raspberry Coke, Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke, Diet Coke Sweetened with Splenda, Diet Coke Plus.

QUALITY OF PACKAGING
The drink itself in 500ml is contained in a plastic bottle that is quite sturdy and keeps the flavour locked. It keeps the drink fizzy until you open it (Obviously) and I like the bottle as you take sips from it, you can quickly close it again to maintain the fizziness. It is also supplied in 330ml aluminium cans but I find that the fizziness disappears very fast after drinking it so I prefer bottles. A plus is that if you want a free bottle to keep your water in, Diet Coke bottle is a perfect example! There's no smell of drink and doesn't stick to the sides so it's ideal for re-using.

=======
TASTE

Why Diet Coke specifically? I always found that regular coke left a taste in my mouth which I didn't particularly agree with, no matter how much people tried to get me to drink coke. The fizziness I find lasts much longer in Diet Coke than regular coke for some reason. I can't quite explain why I like the taste of this product; it has been refined very well, it is very smooth to drink, it goes down my throat very nicely- unless you take a BIG gulp of it, it will seriously hurt your throat! It is utterly gorgeous when it's been chilled to a low temperature.

=======
VALUE FOR MONEY

The drink itself costs around 90 pence in bottle form but in cans, it is about 60pence generally. While, this isn't very cheap compared to foods and such but Diet Coke quenches your thirst really well ironically as it is a diuretic drink and it is really nice at the same time. It doesn't particularly last for very long, once you open it, you have to drink it within 20-30 minutes or it goes very flat, becoming less tasty as time progresses. Also, you have to drink the drink COLD or it is quite nasty to drink when it's warm. Same issue with water, I think.

=======
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION
There's no fats, sodium, fibre, real sugars with traces of sodium and protein. There's only less than 1 calorie for the 330ml can. So it is considered to be a healthier option to regular Coca-Cola. But a even healthier option is not to drink it at all!

=======
HEALTH BENEFITS OR IMPLICATIONS
Diet Coke contains a few naughty stuff- the E-numbers! To clarify, the E-numbers are codes for additives found on food labels throughout Europe. To read up on this, go to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_number#E100.E2.80.9 3E199_.28colours.29

*Aspartame- E951
*Potassium benzoate- E212
It also contains phosphoric acid, Citric acid and caffeine.

There is not a single health benefit in drinking this, there is a long list of side-effects of drinking this. Only if you consume enough of this, you'll suffer the side-effects. I have been suffering side-effects, it has made me much more dehydrated, more prone to tiredness, and I find that I'm quite bloated a lot after I drink this. And to make it worse, Diet Coke does tend to make me put on weight! I find that if I stop drinking it for a while, and with a healthy diet implemented, the weight drops off. But start drinking it again, rate of loss slows down! It is very EASY to become addicted to Diet Coke.

I recommend drinking this in moderation; too much of the product can give you severe health benefits.

========
DIET COKE OR...PEPSI?
This is a massive debate with everyone, for me, it is Diet Coke. Pepsi lacks the punch/tang that Diet Coke has, it also lacks fizziness and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

========
CONCLUSION

It is one of the most popular carbonated drinks, it is not difficult to see why a lot of people drink this. It is a nice fizzy drink, even a tad expensive; it has very low calories, it is heavily-promoted- Advertising DOES work. But I also think there's a lot nicer drinks out there with better potential health prospects. It is extremely easy to get addicted to this drink. If you haven't drunk it before, I wouldn't start now. You can do without it.

Thank you for reading

Summary: Overall it's an okay drink, other better drinks on market that's kinder to the body

Hooray! They have at last realised the folly of using aspartame! and are using Splenda sweetener instead! I still don't like the stuff - too burpy
