Advantages: A great taste...excellent for the summer months

Disadvantages: Watch out for too much sweetener in your diet

When I was growing up one of my favourite things was the saturday afternoon visit to the pub with mum and dad. We would be given a bottle of coke and a bag of crisps...whilst they went indoors and sat with their friends...of course, we always wanted more and more, but in the true spirit of parenthood...Mum refused and tried to teach us how to sip our drinks!

many years on my love affair with coke still remains, yet now I am addicted...yes addicted to Diet Coke!

Diet Coke is an incredibly versatile drink and although very often imitated...not many come close to producing the taste that I love and enjoy. I try to limit how much diet coke I drink in a week as there have been some health concerns assocaited with drinking too much of this, particularly with the aspartame sweetner used in the drink, but I believe that in moderation and with a healthy diet too, in moderation this is a great drink.

I enjoy drinking Diet Coke all year around, but nothing beats a long tall glass of this with loads of ice in the summer months. I always find somehow, that it tastes better when it is in a tall glass...perhaps it has something to do with the gas travelling further up the glass? It is also a tremndous mixer with alcohol and makes most spirits far more bearable! I enjoy Diet Coke with Bacardi and with Vodka, although my particular favourite is with Whisky...although there is some debate as to whether this should be 'normal Coke' rather than the diet option.

I think that if you consider Diet COke to be a treat, then you enjoy it more, at one time I was drinking far too much of it so decided to limit it to drinking it out of work. this meant I looked forward to it more too. The bottles come in all shapes and sizes and Coke, being one of the world's leading brands are always looking for new and innovative ways to promote and sell their drink. My first choice is from a bottle, most likely from a purely nostalgic view, then I like it from a can. Cans have changed somewhat over the years, but the same great taste has remained. Most cans on sale in the United Kingdom are 330ml, so I was surprised on a recent visit to Australia to discover a 370 ml can... a great surprise!

Diet Coke is a great treat with lots of ice, fresh lemon or lime and it even freezes well to make lovely Coke ice cubes!

The price of Diet Coke varies from season to season. Presently, our local supermarket is selling two bottles of diet coke (two litre bottles) for two pounds, which I think is very good value. Although you could buy say, for example the same home brand cold for around ninety pence...it is safe to say that the tastes just do not compare.

Diet COke have tried many varieties throughout the years, such as with vanilla, cherry or lemon and lime, but the best version is the straight forward Diet Coke...as this is then something that you can have the pleasure of adding to!

Summary: A must for the fridge in summer months
