Diet Coca Cola

Advantages: Better for you than normal coca cola
Disadvantages: Just not the same! Quite tasteless
I am not a huge fan of soft drinks generally, but my son and partner like them so I always have a couple of bottles in. They are both made on coca cola and this is their favourite by a long way, but I am conscious of my sons diet so started purchasing diet coca cola so he could enjoy his favourite soft drink without consuming too much sugar.
You can obviously purchase single units of cans and bottles (plastic), but I tend to purchase the larger 2ltr bottles when doing my weekly Tesco shop.
Also Coca Cola is a premium brand of soft drink, and therefore more expensive than other brands, if you keep an eye out you can often get them on offer. For example at the moment, they are on offer in Tesco's and you can purchase 4x bottles for £4.00, so at £1.00 a bottle, this stuff is good value for money.
As diet coke looks the same as standard coke, I didn't think my son would notice the difference in taste as I hadn't told him I had substituted his normal coke for diet coke. The only visible difference is the colour of the label surrounding the bottle with the standard coke being the well known red and white logo, but the diet coke has a white label to differentiate between the two. As my son doesn't pour his own, I presumed he wouldn't notice the difference - unfortunately he did!
Straight away he said 'my coke tastes funny' though I managed to blag my way out of it, though he didn't look convinced. If I have coca cola, it tends to be with a meal so I tried some diet coke to see if I could notice the difference. I have to say I unfortunately agreed with my son. Although this version was far better for him as I was limiting his sugar intake, the actual taste just wasn't the same.
Without the sugar, this tasted just like the cheaper brands of coke you can purchase in my opinion and just didn't have the same quality taste that makes coca cola so popular. It looked exactly the same with its dark colouring and lovely fizz when first poured from the bottle, but it had quite a bland, tasteless feel to it and I wasn't impressed at all.
Reluctantly I personally wouldn't purchase this again as I wasn't impressed at all. I have now reached a compromise with my son and occasionally purchase 'full fat' coca cola but we also purchase pepsi max which is again a soft drink with limited sugar, but it tastes far better than diet coke does.
Overall, as much as we as a family love coca cola, I was extremely disappointed with the taste of their diet coke. It just wasn't the same as ordinary coca cola. This got a thumbs down from all the family unfortunately and I won't be purchasing it again.
Summary: Not for our family i'm afraid
