Diet Coke Tasty But Addictive
Member Name: TheSpaceBetween2
Advantages: Best tasting brand and best tasting variant of sugar free coca cola product, Great colours on can
Disadvantages: Caffeine, Phenylalanine, Pricier than bargain cola brands
Diet Coke is a well Known soft drink that tastes quite sweet but not as sweet as its sugary brethren regular coke. In can form it comes in a striking silver can with white stripes down the side and it has the words "Diet Coke" emblazoned in black and red. I personally find it the best of all cokes from a taste point of view though it is more expensive than Barr's Diet Coke or other such bargain brands.
Comparing it to pepsi and pepsi max which are also both supposed to be low sugar products I have to say that in my opinion the taste is superior, as in my opinion those other drinks just don't seem to fizz on the taste buds the same way diet coke does and though quite distinct from regular coke are probably closer to regular coke than anything else in my opinion. Thus I find diet coke as the original sugar free coca cola to also be the superior brand.
The down side with all coke-cola brands be it regular or diet coke is the inclusion of caffeine although perversely this is also what attracts a lot of people to the drink, the idea that one can consume this beverage and then be able to continue to work at a harder level for longer.
The reason I list this as a down side and not a positive is because of its societal impact, some people just can't tolerate caffeine at all and thus may sometimes feel excluded in a social situation when every one else is drinking caffeinated coke and they are stuck with caffeine free coke. It may make them feel a little isolated and excluded and I am sure most brands are striving to be inclusive rather than exclusive.
The second reason I list this as a drawback is that caffeine is psychoactive substance and thus affects how one thinks and may not be good for those who are impulsive more commonly this can pose problems of addiction to many people who can end up doing more harm to their body than good by consuming excessive caffeine.
The product does work as it should with massive demand being put on vendors worldwide to sell copious amounts to thirsty consumers, indeed I myself love the taste of it more than any other brand of coke.
It is this drink I think that in my mind makes coke the tour de force that is, the market leader, and not its excessively sweet regular brand. However I also think it should be used in moderation and that the consumer should sometimes think about buying caffeine free diet coke which has almost as good a taste without the danger of damaging your body through caffeine consumption.
One can of caffeinated coke a day to keep you going is fine and tastes brilliant, five or six is probably counter productive as it gets your body depending on caffeine to perform at all rather than utilising the potential caffeine has in moderation to raise your performance level at work or college.
Another downside that makes it somewhat exclusive to some consumers is the inclusion of phenylalanine which cannot be broken down by those with Phenyl Ketone Urea syndrome or PKU for short. I myself am quite sensitive to caffeine so can only drink a few cans before I don't enjoy the negative personal impact of having to more frequently make trips to the toilet.
I have one friend for whom caffeine increases their blood pressure to sky high levels due to abnormal excessive sympathetic nervous system activation in response to caffeine and another with PKU and they have both mentioned this drink along with several other products as being somewhat exclusive because myself and others are able to enjoy them whilst they can't. They don't understand why it is not possible to make changes that retain the original taste but remove most of the caffeine and the phenylalanine.
So whilst I may enjoy it I feel bad from those who the product unintentionally excludes from experiencing it.
Summary: A lovely refreshing drink that tastes better than any other coke, for those of us who can enjoy it.
