Advantages: Nice carbonated drink

Disadvantages: Too gassy, health risks

Well, being the Coke addict I am (No, not that kind!) I usually stick to my regular Coca Cola or Diet Coke (I find regular leaves a sticky texture in your mouth), but when I saw 2 six packs on offer for under £3 of Diet Pepsi I couldn't pass it by. So I picked it up and went to the checkout of my local Somerfield to purchase it, along with a reduced Steak & Onion pasty (Not something I would recommend).

The first thing I noticed was that, even though Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi are basically the same thing, Diet Pepsi feels a little "emptier" as you are drinking it. The taste is there, it just feels a little bit TOO fizzy, this may be due to an increased amount of aspartame than in Diet Coke. Aspartame has been heavily criticised for being used in carbonated drinks as a replacement for sugar, because it isn't too healthy. But in general, carbonated drinks aren't healthy, aspartame or not. As a whole it is a nice enough cola flavoured drink, but not up to Diet Coke standards.

The packaging is very busy, but I like it more than the Coca Cola packaging. It has the standard PEPSI logo on with "diet" scrawled underneath the logo. There are various promotions around the can, usually relating to free music giveaways, which is a drawback with the packaging.

Whilst the product has no fat or sugar in it, suggesting it might not be that bad for you, it really is. You take one glance at the ingredients list, aspartame, citric acid, phosphoric acid, acesulfame K. As well as these there are various E Numbers in them. Basically, it's not doing your body, in particular your teeth, any favours whatsoever.

It's a decent enough product, and if I saw the offer again I would buy it again but I just don't think it succeeds Diet Coke, with the increased gassy feel when drinking it. Health issues obviously exist with Coca Cola as well but I would recommend that over this every time.

Summary: Good product but not as good as Diet Coke.
