Advantages: So Tasty, So So Tasty
Disadvantages: High in Calories, Not Available in Tesco
Dooley's Toffee Liqueur is a real treat indeed for anybody that's a fan of sweet liqueurs. It's a vodka based liqueur that contains 17% alcohol, combined with cream and toffee caramel flavours. It isn't sold in my local Tesco anymore which is a shame, but maybe that's because it's a drink that a lot of people only have at Christmas?
It's still stocked by my local off licence though, so it's a good place to look for it if you want to buy some yourself. You can expect to pay around £12 for a 70cl bottle but prices vary a lot out side of the supermarket of course.
Dooley's Toffee Liqueur is really thin and smooth to drink. The rich, creamy taste comes through immediately, and the toffee flavour soft caramel comes with it. It smells very strongly of toffee, but I can taste caramel over toffee when I drink it. It's very sweet, but the vodka does give it a bit more of a clean taste than when you drink something like Tia Maria, which is considerably more sugary than Toffee Dooley's is.
It's best served cold over ice without any mixers. They do say you can use it as a mixer, but I don't think this needs it as a general rule. The only thing I will do occassionally is mix it with milk, half and half, to make it go further. The daughter loves to do dilute it right down and gulp it come to think of! She says it's like an alcoholic milkshake!
I really like this drink, though I wouldn't want to do my waistline too much damage by drinking it too often. As an occassional treat, and especially at Christmas, this is a first class treat.
Summary: Highly Recommended
