Advantages: Gorgeous rich taste, A change from Baileys

Disadvantages: Can be a bit sickly

I got a bottle of this for Christmas and its one of the best liqueurs I've tasted, along with Baileys of course! My bottle came in a presentation pack with 6 toffee tipper glasses (cute little round glasses like Weebles (remember them???) that can fall nearly all the way over and not spill a drop!) that were especially designed for the Dooleys drink and a recipe booklet.

Dooley's was first introduced in December 2000 but it's only the in the last 12 months or so that it's become available just about everywhere. The tagline for Dooley's is 'Vodka Toffee: Not for the sweet and innocent' - well, I'm definately not sweet or innocent so this seems to be the drink for me! :o)

oOoOo THE BOTTLE oOoOo

Dooley's comes in a square glass bottle which is half red and half blue. It makes me think of Cream eggs to be honest and I think that's down to the colour scheme. The word Dooley's is written in darker blue letters and edged in yellow, which adds to the 'Cream Egg complex'! Original Toffee Liquer is below Dooley's in fancy writing - sounds good, eh? The top of the bottle is a simple twist off metal cap, painted red to match the bottle.

I love this bottle. It's trendy but manages to look a bit posh at the same time and I've now got mine on the shelf in the kitchen with a yellow candle sticking out of the top - it looks fab too. :o) The Dooley's miniatures are tiny versions of this bottle and I think they're so sweet. Mind you, when I've got a couple of mini's in I have to be careful to put them out of my 4 year olds way cos she thinks they look good enough to drink too! lol

oOoOo THE TASTE oOoOo

Delicious. It's the same texture of Bailey's, very creamy and it's lovely and sweet. The thing that surprised me was that it actually DID taste of toffee. I was expecting to be disappointed like with the toffee yogurts at the supermarket - h
ow can they get away with calling something toffee flavour when it tastes nothing like toffee???!!! But with Dooleys, the toffee flavour really came through - it had the flavour of an alcoholic toffee sauce. I drank the whole bottle in one night and towards the end I found the sweetness a bit over powering but not too much - before I drank it I was expecting to be a bit sickly, but it wasn't. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, the same bitterness you get after drinking a glass of Bailey's but this isn't a bad thing and the aftertaste doesn't last long anyway.

The smell that come's out of the bottle is a rich toffee smell and you can tell it's going to be really sweet.

I tried a couple of recipes out of the book, but honestly my fave way to drink it was plain over ice - it WAS delicous poured over vanilla ice cream though.... I also had poured some into my coffee instead of milk and this made a lovely change. A word of warning though - if you have it in coffee don't add sugar. Dooley's makes the coffee so sweet anyway that if there's sugar in there too you'll be sick before long!

oOoOo ANYTHING ELSE? oOoOo

Dooley's is vodka based and is 17% by volume, but its one of those drinks that isn't particulary stong but gets you drunk really quick! My mate brought mine from Tesco for £10.99 and I also got the 6 toffee tipper glasses with it so that was a bit of a bargain.

A bonus too is that Dooleys has up to 50% less fat than other cream liqueurs - so a nice drink if (like me) you're keeping an eye on your weight. Its very sweet though so what it lacks in fat it will definitely make up for in calories! I recommend it to anyone who likes liqueur drinks - an interesting alternative to Baileys.
