Advantages: Delicious, Delicious, Delicious!, Not too alcoholic, Did I mention it was delicious?
Disadvantages: Not going to be your favourite if you don't like toffee..., Makes you drink it at 11am!
I just couldn?t resist this title ? Dooley?s should really be the official dooyoo spirit with that name! If you have not had Dooley?s Original Toffee Vodka before then you really are missing out. Unless you don?t like toffee of course, as the name suggests this cream liquor is almost bursting with delicious toffee flavour. Mmm just describing it is making me want some. Eleven in the morning isn?t too early to have some, is it? Just in the name of research of course... My desire for toffee vodka... I mean my desire to write an accurate review... has lead me to ignore the earliness of the hour and bring out the Dooley?s! You will probably have spotted this product in an off licence or supermarket before ? it is the bottle that looks like a giant Cream Egg! As it shows in the little picture at the top, the bottle is an eye catching blue and red combination with catroon-ish writing saying ?Dooley?s? on it. I originally thought it was some kind of Cream Egg liquor ? that is how similar they are! To me this is bordering on breaking the advertisers code and appealing to children, but I doubt any parents will let their kids have some once they have tasted how delicious it is! Anyway, no time to delay on packaging. Too the toffeeness! No, wait, there is still the advertising to mention yet. Damn. The tagline is ?Vodka Toffee ? not for the sweet and innocent?. This goes along with some very ?artistic? black and white images of naked men and women licking various parts of each other?s bodies... The cartoony packaging and adverts are certainly very different! The theme for the adverts seems to be summed up with the accompanying message ?Dooley?s ? on ice, on ice cream, on skin?. So yes, if you have a convenient volunteer you can really experiment with the limits of Dooley?s versatility! Right I
finally get to have some of this delicious cream liquor now! About time too. The neck of the bottle has a little plastic divider in it, presumably to mix the liquid together while you are pouring it. It looks just like Baileys and other creamy alcoholic drinks ? kind of milky, but with a creamy caramel colour. There is a very yummy toffee smell along with quite a strong smell of alcohol too. I like to drink it just straight, from a shot glass. At first it just tastes creamy, then you get the toffee flavour coming through. Like liquid Worther?s Original toffees or crème caramel desserts. After a few seconds the alcohol kicks in and it produces a lovely warming sensation on your tongue. You are left with a general creamy caramel aftertaste and a warming glow. Just going to have another sip now, mmmmm?. Dooley?s is only 17% alcohol, so the rest of this op will not be overly hindered by my early morning taste-test! Just some of the many suggestions for what you can do with Dooley?s include adding it to coffee, on ice, as a shooter, in cocktails, over desserts, over pancakes and, if you have that volunteer handy, on skin! There is a website at www.dooleystoffee.com which includes several cocktail recipes such as Jamaican Dooley?s where you add some rum to it, and the interestingly named ?Sticky Nipple? which consists of equal parts chilled amaretto, Dooley?s and sambuca. They all sound nice, but I quite like it just on it?s own, to appreciate the true toffee gloriousness of this wonderful cream liquor! The ingredients that make up its toffee loveliness are vodka, cream, sugar, milk, flavour and caramel syrup. If is available in most supermarkets and off licences, for around £13 for a 0.7 litre bottle. They also do adorable little miniature 70cl bottles which have an even closer resemblance to Cream Eggs, and are not really big enough for
more than one quick drinks worth. Treat yourself and buy the big bottle! You never know when you might find that handy volunteer and want to do some experiments...
