Advantages: tastes yummy, don't need a lot to get merry!
Disadvantages: a tad expensive!
I don't write many alcohol reviews, which is strange really, seem as though youth is supposed to be about drinking, dancing, being generally wild and having fun! Although it is true that you can have fun without drinking, the odd tipple every now and again can do no harm can it :) Now usually when I drink, I like to drink Alco pops. You know the ones: Smirnoff, Reef, Hooch etc. However a few years ago I got more into the heavier stuff. It became a tradition to drink neat vodkas wherever I went. Now don?t get me wrong I wasn?t an alcoholic but when I drank I drank! Now I?m getting older I have raised my standards a little and I?m trying out different things that I never thought I?d try. Various liqueurs being one of those things. I?ve tried sherry and quite liked it (even if it is a bit strong!), and now this. But was it worth it? *** A little about the good stuff *** Now for those of you who don?t know what Dooley?s is, prepare to be amazed! It is a very strong alcoholic drink that tastes exactly like toffee. That?s right?toffee! It was introduced into the UK in the run up to Christmas 2000 and would you believe that one of my favourite stores started selling it first (Tesco?s). It can be served with a few other drinks to make a tasty recipe, if your lucky I might give you a few recipes later on the review. It comes in a colourful bottle that I have to say is quite small compared to other liqueur bottles, and its packaging is supposed to reflect that it is good for both those who are young and those who are young at heart. If you want to find it you should look for a bottle that is half red and half blue. It really is eye-catching. Oh yeah, the thing you will probably most want to know is that it is 17% which is pretty darn high I
think! *** Smell and taste *** It smells quite strong I have to admit but I tend not to sniff my drinks when I get them. My dad has a strange habit of doing that but the less said about that the better! I didn?t really know what to expect to be honest when I first poured some of this into a glass. It looked really creamy and quite thick. In fact I think I can go as far as saying that it looked extremely delicious and my mouth was watering at the sight of it. Corny but true! My first impressions of it were that it tasted really strong but actually quite nice. It was much nicer than I expected. In fact, it was delicious! It really tasted of toffee and I could hardly tell that I was drinking alcohol. I like that in an alcoholic drink because it means you can drink more and enjoy it more. It had a really creamy taste and I loved the way it just glided down my throat leaving a really warm trail behind. It warmed me up something chronic and I haven?t felt that for a while. I don?t know if you know what I mean but it?s those types of alcoholic drinks that leave you feeling warm inside no matter what temperature it is outside. This is great if it?s freezing because you definitely won?t feel it! I didn?t find it sickly in any way but some people might do so this could be a disadvantage to some. *** Price and availability *** I bought this for £6.99 from South Wales while I was staying with my parents over Xmas. I thought this was really expensive at the time because the bottle is quite small. You get 70cl in a bottle the same as you get with a bottle of wine usually (or at least that?s what I get in my bottles of wine). Prices will vary though from place to place and after looking around when I got back into Swindon, this stuff
sells from anything between £10.47 in Tesco?s to £15.99 on the website. A thing to mention is that on the website you can buy Dooley?s in a pack of 6 which I haven?t seen available anywhere else. It is rather expensive though at £95.94! It is widely available and you can get it from supermarkets like Tesco (they stock it in 260 stores throughout the UK), Asda and selected Safeway stores. They also sell it in pubs, clubs and cash and carries. So as you can see it isn?t the cheapest of drinks but it is worth the money. But just in case you aren?t yet convinced here?s just a little more information about this incredible drink: *** How much will you need to have to get you drunk? *** Personally I didn?t even need half the bottle to get myself a little tipsy. It took me one tiny glass (and I mean tiny!) to make myself warm inside and quite ?high?. I?d say even the hardest of drinkers wouldn?t be able to stand much of this stuff before getting drunk. *** You mentioned recipes earlier? *** That?s right I did! Good thing you reminded me isn?t it! If you?re a whiz at making cocktails here?s a couple of recipe?s you could try making with this delightful stuff. But even if you aren?t an expert why not have fun guessing the amounts? Either way have fun and if you can?t be good be very, very bad! Lol ** Banana Pudding ** Mix one part Dooley?s and one part Kahlua and then a final part of banana liqueur over ice in a standard whisky tumbler. ** Sticky Nipple ** Put equal amounts of both Dooley?s, Sambuca and chilled Amaretto and layer them over each other in a shot glass. ** Jamaican Dooley?s ** Pour two parts of Dooley?s over ice and add one part of dark rum then finally stir. So there
you have it, some luscious recipes to keep you occupied and to keep you in trouble! Don?t forget you can also use it instead of milk in your coffee (although I wouldn?t advise that during office hours! lol), and you can also pour it over pancakes! *** Any final information *** If you need any other information you can find out more by visiting their website. You aren?t supposed to advertise other websites in opinions other than ciao so I won?t list the name of the website for that reason. I can however say that if you type Dooley?s toffee into a search engine it will more than likely bring back the Dooley?s website for you. It is a good website which I might actually write about sometime. Anyway I think it?s time for this review to come to an end because I?m getting a craving for it and if I stop now it might just go away. Oh what the hell, one glass won't hurt! Aimee xxx
