Advantages: You can still stand up after a few pints

Disadvantages: Not too punchy on the flavour front

This lager will forever have a special place in my heart (and my stomach!). I'd never heard of it until I went to Mexico on holiday....it is EVERYWHERE there. On every billboard by the road, on lorries, bars, everywhere you look is that huge double X logo. And best of all, it was on tap at our all inclusive hotel, which meant it was free and came in a bottomless glass :D
Now, the first day we went for lunch (mexican, naturally!) I fancied a lager with mine and asked what was available. To be honest, i was rather hoping for Corona, that being the only Mexican lager i was familiar with then. The name meant nothing to me, so i just nodded and crossed my finger that it wasn't going to be too dire.

Well, it's the perfect lager for drinking in the sun, without knocking you flat for the afternoon! It's only 3.5%, so doesn't pack too much punch, but personally i like the taste - a good sharp flavour, like a gentler Nastro Azurro i'd say. It goes very well with a slice of salted lime, and as you might expect is a good companion for spicy food. However, I have to say i'm not a lager connoisseur by any means (Stella is my usual choice at home) and I suspect that in a strict taste test on a grey, rainy English day, Dos Equis might not make much impact.

Dos Equis is made, unsurprisingly, in Mexico, i believe by the same company who make Sol - although i'm not so keen on that one, i find it definitely a bit lacking in flavour. Unlike Sol though, none of the main supermarkets in the UK stock it as far as i know, so you're into specialist drinks shops, or possibly your local mexican restaurant will have it- ours does.

Summary: Takes me back to a seafood lunch by the caribbean - that's magic, not lager!
