Advantages: good tasting premium coffee

Disadvantages: a litle more expensive than some other brands

When it comes to coffee consumption nothing beats real coffee. I used to own a coffee machine but got rid of it a few years back as it took to much space and wasn't used enough. After missing proper coffee at home I decided to invest in a cafetiere.

Initially I tried standard supermarket brand coffee but I wasn't initially impressed with this so I increased my budget and moved on to the Douwe-Egberts brand which was a real improvement in regards to the smell and the taste. Douwe- Egberts is a brand that I had previously experienced and found to be of good quality so I wasn't really surprised by this.
Douwe-Egberts Real Coffee is a blend of the finest quality beans from around the world, dark roasted to heighten the flavour. Offering an exquisite, rich aroma and a taste which is full bodied, this coffee is the perfect end to any meal.

I believe that one of the most enticing things from a pot of coffee is the smell, particularly first thing in the morning. The coffee gave out a rich and well roasted aroma and is a very good enticer to try the coffee.

The first product that I tried was Douwe-Egberts real strong coffee with a coffee strength of 5. Douwe-Egberts rate their coffee strength out of 5 with 5 being the strongest. I did find strength 5 to be a little too rich and bitter tasting for my liking. After a little investigating, I found that strength 5 is indeed an after dinner coffee yet I was looking for a product that I could use on a regular basis so I decided to try blend 3 which was said to be for any time of the day.

I headed off to the supermarket to purchase blend 3, medium roast and when I got there I was delighted to find that blend 3 was actually available in two varieties, one for coffee machines and one for cafetieres. I purchased the 250g vacuum pack for £2.85 and headed home to give it a try. I followed the instructions on the packet and measured a round desert spoonful of coffee into my pre warm cafetiere and poured enough water on for my cup. I then left the coffee to settle for 3 minutes before pressing down the plunger.
I certainly wasn't let down at all. The taste was smooth and much milder than the previous product, yet not mild enough to lose its taste. The coffee was easy and pleasant to drink and due to purchasing the cafetiere coffee, I noticed that there were less bits left in the coffee towards he end due to the finer ground beans.

To summarise, I would most certainly invest in this product again, thank you Douwe-Egberts.

Summary: A good well rounded amd rich coffee.
