Advantages: Lovely and smooth
Disadvantages: no idea of the caffiene content or nutritonal value on the pack
I had an unexpected gift yesterday, well actually I had two gifts and it wasn't even my birthday or anything. Aren't I a lucky so-and-so! Anyway the first gift was a Delonghi coffee machine, which I shall be reviewing later on in the month, once I've tried it out a lot more and used all the features on it. Back to the coffee in question. As the machine was an unexpected gift, I didn't have any filter coffees in the house so I dashed off to the shop to get some. Being a small shop in a very small village the choice was very limited - to Douwe Egberts or Douwe Egberts! That's okay for me as I've tried this many times before in pubs and restaurants and liked very much, so I snatched it off the shelf along with a big pack of Kit Kats,(Well you just have to don't you?) paid for them and skipped all the way back home to make it. Douwe Egberts have apparently 240 years experience in blending roasting and grinding coffeee, being established in 1753,and the result is absolutely fantastic Imust say. This one is a medium roast variety especially for filter coffee machine, it comes in a red packet, but you can buy another one for use in cafetieres that comes in a green pack. You can also buy it in three different strengths which are as follows: - 1. Mild: Ideal for breakfast and all day drinking 3:Medium: Suitable for any occasion, any time of the day. 5: Strong: The perfect end to any meal. The pack is vacuum-sealed to keep in the freshness and it is recommended that once opened, you should put it in an airtight container and keeps it in the fridge, this will preserve the flavour and freshness. You should also use it within 3 weeks of opening, not a problem with this one I can assure you. When you open the pack the lovely coffee aroma hits you straight away, but it's not too overpowering. It sounds a little strange to describe it in this way but it does h
ave a smooth gentle smell, slightly sweet even. Some filter coffees have a very distinct burnt smell to them that I find very off ?putting. So it tastes great as an ordinary cup of filter coffee, as an espresso, or as a base for your cappuccino when you add frothed milk to it. The pack recommends one rounded dessertspoon of coffee for each cup,but use that as a guide only and adjust the amount to suit your personal preference and your machine. The taste is very smooth, without leaving a nasty bitter after taste. Hamish and I drank loads of it yesterday and still managed to get a good nights sleep even though its not decaffeinated. I'll definitely be buying this one again even though I'm going to try a few others as well.So five out of five from me for this superb coffee which I bought at the village shop for £2.29 for 250g. Douwe Egberts have a website if you would like to find out a bit more about them and their products its www.douwe-egberts.co.uk Enjoy!
