Advantages: Refreshing, tasty, as nice as the full sugar version in my opinion

Disadvantages: -----------

Now the weather is warming up slightly I am tending to have more cold drinks during the day rather than constantly making tea, the problem is I am dieting so am needing to avoid sugary high calorie pop in favour of their usually disappointing diet counterparts.

I was in Morrisons a few days ago when I noticed they had packs of six cans of pop on special offer where you could buy two packs for £3, which is a good saving based on the individual prices. They were all diet versions so it would seem I was spoiled for choice, but the only variety which really appealed was the Dr Pepper Zero as I love the refreshing flavour of standard Dr Pepper and I know my younger daughter drinks this so if I didn't like it I could put the rest of the cans away until I see her next.

She has missed out though because I absolutely love this drink and can see very little difference between this Zero version and the normal Dr Pepper. This no sugar drink is sweetened with a blend of aspartame and acesulfame and they give it the same tangy sweetness as the normal pop, the only real difference being the flavour is a little more watery and not quite as full bodied.

Dr Pepper Zero is a fruit flavoured drink, I have no idea what fruits are used to flavour it and there is no indication on the packaging but it definitely does have a fruitiness about it which is very refreshing and leaves me feeling as though I've had a thirst quenching drink, unlike most diet Colas which sometimes make me thirstier than before I drank it.

The bubbliness of Dr Pepper Zero is just right in my opinion, I cannot stand the fact that most diet drinks attempt to make up for lack of sugar with too many fizzy bubbles. Drinking a Fanta Zero recently actually made me feel sick as I swallowed so many bubbles, but on the other hand you have diet Dandelion & Burdock pop which goes from intensely fizzy to dead flat within minutes which is equally horrible.

With Dr Pepper Zero the fizz is strong enough to be audible when I open the can but quickly subsides to a general carbonated texture that I can feel on my tongue as I drink but it's not so strong as to irritate my throat, believe me when you're asthmatic the slightest irritation can start you off and I've had pop in the past that has been so fizzy I've had to have a puff of my inhaler afterwards!

The best thing is that this delicious, refreshing drink contains just 15 calories per can which means I think it will become my garden drink for Summer 2009 and I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone who wants to cut some sugar from their diet.

Summary: This is a lovely drink which will help you lower the sugar in your diet but still enjoy the taste.
