Advantages: Great taste, lots of fizz, lovely with ice, recyclable bottle.
Disadvantages: Lots of sugar, not very refreshing.
Dr Pepper is a soft drink that has been a recognised drink since 1885 and is available in several different varieties in the United States, however, I have only ever seen the original version in the United Kingdom and this is the one that I am reviewing.
The product is available in several sizes: 250ml, 330ml, 500ml, 1.5l & 2l and I usually seem to buy the 500ml bottles as these are very handy for carrying on the move.
The 500ml bottle is the one that I have and it's just a standard plastic bottle (can be recycled where facilities exist - 90% of the UK at present) which is clear and has a burgundy plastic cap. It has a burgundy label which contains ingredients, nutritional information etc and also information on The Coca-Cola Company who distribute this product throughout Europe.
Dr Pepper is fairly high in sugar and calories and I tend to see this as a nice treat which should be enjoyed as a mixer or as a nice cool drink on a hot summers day (or even Spring!) with lots of ice. The taste is very refreshing and this is definitely delicious served chilled. The drink contains lots of fizz so it's best not to shake it up before opening and it really is a delicious drink, although, it's not very refreshing as I often find myself to be quite thirsty just a little while after finishing this drink.
The main complaint I have with this, and most other fizzy soft drinks, is the sheer amount of sugar in these drinks which gives my teeth a horrible coating and makes me feel uncomfortable about the health of my teeth.
There are 103 calories and 25.3g of sugar per 250ml serving so 1 litre would see you going over your guideline daily recommend allowance of sugar just for a drink! Now and again this is acceptable but if you want to enjoy a nice refreshing product without so many calories or so much sugar then I would recommend Dr Pepper Zero or even just trying a far healthier drink.
This is available in 2 litre form for £1.56 from all the big supermarkets at present and there is regularly special offers such as 2 for £2.50 and it's currently on offer at Asda apparently until the end of 2009 so it's worth visiting here if you want to stock up on Dr Pepper.
I am rating this drink 3/5, it tastes perfectly pleasant and it does have a nice kick to it, especially when served chilled, however, because of the amount of sugar & the fact that it's not very refreshing I will buy it again just not very often.
Summary: A delicious soft drink that doesn't really quench my thirst.

- 05/06/09 It's a nice drink but it's kind of half way between Vimto and Coke which is a bit odd. |
