A great alternative to tradtional creams.

You may know from some of my other reviews that my daughter is a vegan. One of the great bonuses of this is that I have been introduced to all manner of goodies which otherwise may have escaped my attention.

I love to buy organic foods which are produced by companies who care about the environment and Ecomil who make this milk are one of those. One of the products made by them is Ecomil Cuisine Chef Almond cream which is a delicious pouring cream. If you are worried about cholesterol or just want to try something new and different then this is worth a look.

It has the consistency of single cream and is a long life product so is handy to have in the store cupboard. It is vegan and has no cholesterol at all. It is also really good if you happen to be dairy intolerant.

The ingredients are water, almond oil, almonds, agave syrup, emulsifier, sunflower lecithin, stabilisers, xanthane gum (this is produced when carbohydrates are fermented) Arabic gum (is the hardened sap taken from two species of the acacia tree and acts as a stabilizer), sea salt and natural almond flavouring.
Agave syrup is a natural sweetener from a variety of succulent which grows in Mexico and is a low GI food. If you would like to know more about it please refer to my review on Agave syrup which can also be found on Dooyoo.

It is packaged in little cartons of 200mls which are a convenient size as they do one meal for a small family, if for example you wanted to pour onto fruit. You can also use the cream in sauces, soups, pasta dishes, and deserts and it is especially good in coffee.

Ecomil is a large company who specialise in the manufacture of alternative milks such as hazelnut and those made from almonds and this cream is an extension to that range. It is imported into the UK by Organico.

I bought my carton of Ecomil from VeganStore and it is also available from Goodness Direct. Both of these online companies are outstanding and it may also be available to buy from your local health food store. If you can't see it on their shelves ask and they should be able to order it in for you. This only applies to local health food stores who are independent as the chains have stock centrally ordered.

It is very popular in France and my favourite way to serve it is actually with French desserts such a lemon tart as the flavour is very pleasant. The cream has a delicate almond flavour but not so overpowering that you only want to serve it with nutty things. It goes very well on porridge as well as on my favourite Christmas pudding.
Having opened it you must refrigerate and use within 5 days.
      £1.25 per 200ml carton.

In summary I would say this is a lovely alternative to any kind of pouring cream and it is heart healthy too!
