Advantages: Lovely, tasty, sophisticated grown up treat
Disadvantages: Contain alcohol and not everyone loves dark chocolate.
Having received a box of these chocolates for Christmas, I was instantly reminded of being a child. My Grandad used to have a box of these every christmas and when my nanna was safely out of the way, would invite me and my brother over to choose a foil decked sweet from the secret box he kept hidden away. I didn't really like the taste of the chocolates at the tender age of 6, but enjoyed being naughty with my grandad!
Now I am a grown up I am obviously allowed to have my own box...as long as I treat them with respect! These liquer filled sweets come in 6 different flavours: The drinks involved are:
Grant's whiskey
Cointreau
Harvey's Bristol Cream
Irish Cream
Courvoisier
Drambuie.
I am not a huge fan of any of these drinks as a drink, but these dark chocolate parcels contain just enough of the liquer to be very pleasant indeed.
It is imperative that you begin the experience by undressing the chocolate from its foil robe very carefully so that you are left with a perfect rectangle of foil. The next step is to bite one end of the crisp chocolate, turning your sweet into a cup, then drink the contents in one gulp. The whiskey may burn a little but it soon passes!!!
Once that has gone, you place the rest of the chocolate into your mouth and suck! Inside each chocolate is a small amount of crystallised sugar that adds a bit of crunch once the chocolate has melted, adding an unexpected surprise!
I would absolutely recommend these as a grown-up chocolate gift, retailing at about £3.50. They are probably around all year, but are especially evident at Christmas time.
NB I am sure that i once read that someone got drunk on these, but I think that they ate about 40 000! Just a word of warning for anyone who does not like or cannot drink alcohol!
Summary: Not just for Christamas!!
