These days it is still a family run business with offices and markets all over the world. The grapes for all of their wines are grown and harvested in all of the important wine producing regions of California, eg Napa Valley, Sonoma. I happened to try this wine at Pizza hut of all places whilst I was out on a family gathering. I think it was the descent price that first appealed to us all and as Rose seemed to be a compromise to the split decision over red or white it meant that we could get a couple of bottles to suit all. Firstly I was a little confused about the wine as the label states White Zinfandel and yet it's a Rose so I wasn't expecting it to be a very good wine however I was very pleasantly surprised. Ernest and Julio Gallo is the brand under which the Gallo Family Vineyards sell their wine commercially. This wine is produced with the Zinfandel grape and in particular a variety known as White Zinfandel. The Zinfandel grape is predominantly grown in California and accounts for 10% of all the grapes grown in the state. White zinfandel outsells other Zinfandel wines by over six times. The wine is sold in a 75 centilitre bottle and costs around just £5. The wine is largely considered as ready to drink and is not intended for storage. Normally I like to start my reviews with availability and price information, but I have to dive right in here to talk about the taste of this! That's because I couldn't work out for ages just what is so nice about this wine, then I read in the description for this product that this is "a light pink wine featuring a pleasant floral aroma, fresh strawberry and juicy peach flavours". Well that's what I couldn't put my finger on - the peach flavour! It's most definetely there when you drink this gorgeous wine, along with the strong sense of strawberry. Although a Rose wine, the white zinfandel grape is very sweet and accounts for round about 10% of all the grapes that are produced in California. Earnest and Gallo produce two famous wines which is the White Grenache and the White Zinfandel. Like all the othere reviews in this category, this has to be my favourite. It is a very sweet wine with no bitter after taste like you get with a medium or dessert white wine. It is very light to drink (aka you realise you drink more than you expect).
