I first tasted Evian spring water when I was on holiday in France. I bought the water because we were traveling through France and needed some bottled water. I choose Evian over the wide range of other brands on offer because I believed at the time that this was the best brand on the market!

Evian is a French brand and is made by the giant Danone group. It is considered a high end product and as such has a lot of snob value! The water used comes from Evian-Les -Bains on the south side of Lake Geneva. Evian tell you on their web site that the water used starts its journey high up in the Alps when it falls as rain and snow. Over many years the water runs down the mountain traveling through vast mineral fields, until it arrives in the spring.

Evian bottled water comes in a clear plastic bottle with a simple mountain picture on the front. The packaging does look quite up market in my opinion which is exactly what Danone intend it to do! The bottle has a simple screw cap and can be recycled.

Next for the all important taste test. The water does taste good, especially when it is really cold on a hot day. However I really can't tell the difference between Evian bottled water and most other brands I have tried.

Water is essential for life as we all know and our bodies are almost entirely made up of water. It is very important to keep well hydrated and water really is the best drink available, containing no sugar or salt. A failure to drink enough water can result in lots of problems including headaches. However do we really need to go to the expense of buying bottled water? In my opinion out tap water is perfectly fine to drink and has the same health benefits as bottled waters. In fact you are more likely to pick up an infection from drinking from a plastic bottle that from your tap water. This is especially true if you swig from the bottle then re seal and drink again later.

To enjoy tap water at its best I think it helps to keep a jug in the fridge. Water really does taste best cold. If you don't enjoy the taste of plain water then you could try squeezing some lemon juice and then adding a few slices of lemon to your glass.

Not only is all bottled water expensive but it has an environmental impact too. It really is not very environmentally friendly to buy water in plastic bottles that take resources to make even if they can be recycled!

Evian water is useful to buy when traveling or when you are unsure of the water quality, but otherwise I really think it is unnecessary. However if you do want to buy it then it is widely available from most supermarkets. At the moment a 2 litre bottle costs around 78p or £2.14 for 6 50cl bottles.

Summary: bottled water

I only buy bottled water if I'm out and about, and then I usually opt for the 'One' Water. Also, have you noticed what Evian spells backwards?

If you do have to buy bottled water then buy One Water instead as it is a not for profit company.
