Advantages: It's cheap?

Disadvantages: It's pitched as an Australian beer, but there is not much Australian about it!!

Let me tell you a story about Fosters...

Around 5 years ago, whilst I was still living in Melbourne, Australia, we had a family BBQ day at the park for the expats working in the office. A British colleague of mine who had relocated from London to Melbourne came along with his 6 pack of Fosters - and we all laughed! Why? Because noone actually drinks Fosters in Australia!! I know it's pitched as an Australian beer, but when I'm at "home" in Australia we drink beers like Cascade or Boags or foreign beers such as Heineken.

So when I moved to London, I suddenly found everyone drinking Fosters - including my Australian friends who were also living here, much to my surprise.

The reason, as they told me, is because it tastes better over here! They are probably correct, but I can't say I ever tried it in Oz. Because although marketed as an Australian beer, complete with the Southern Cross and a kangaroo on the label, it's actually made here in the UK and owned by Scottish and Newcastle, which is owned by Henieken! Go figure!

A few facts about Fosters - courtesy of the Fosters and wikipedia websites, that you may or may not know.
Although originally brewed in Australia back in the late 1800's, it was introduced to the UK by the actor Paul Hogan in the 1970's & 1980's.
Fosters (the brand) was bought by Scottish & Newcastle in 2006!
Fosters claim Brits drink over 30 pints of Fosters a second (hhmmm)
Fosters have had "presence" in Australia. They sponsored the Australian Grand Prix from 1986-1993, then 2002-2006 (probably the only time we drank it!!)

Now I'm not a beer connoisseur, far from it. I don't know my ales from my lagers, but I tend to go for lighter beers such as Carona, so my review of Fosters, which is pale lager, is already looking unfavourable already.

I'll admit I've tried it a couple of times. We've taken it to picnics and I've tried it on tap, but it's too fizzy and bitter for my taste, girl talk I know, but I know I would prefer a pint of Stella or Heineken or Grolsch over Fosters.

Fosters also seems to always come in cans (unless you are at a pub and it's on tap). The few times I drink beer I like it cold in a glass or glass bottle. So another reason Foster's is failing to impress me.

And yet another reason I dislike drinking Fosters, is because I don't want my friends at home to laugh at me!! And they will.

Fosters is currently available at Tesco for at £3.73 for 4 x 500ml cans.
I went online to compare the retail price in Australia, but couldn't find anywhere that sell it!!!
By way of comparison to European beers, Tesco is selling slightly smaller cans of Becks for £3.00 for 4 cans.

If you're a beer lover you might be able to review this beer on taste and quality better than I can. But I find it amusing that a beer that is seldom drunk at all in Australia is being pitched as choice Australian beer!!
And that's why I'm giving it 2 stars!!
Next you know we'll be telling you Kangaroos jump down the streets!!

Summary: Try Cascade, Boags, VB or a Coopers for a true Australian beer!!
