Advantages: No suprises, straight forward lager

Disadvantages: Not gonna win any competitions in best lager category

Fosters, the "amber nectar". The archetypal Aussie lager, or so we're led to believe. I recently holidayed in Sydney with my bro and found that nobody drank fosters at all (with beers like tooheys and victoria bitter to hand who could blame them). I guess the Australian-ness is just a gimmick.

Tastewise Fosters is quite fizzy and fairly bland (My mate rob would skin me if he read this as he swears by Fosters). I am definately a lager man rather than a real ale coinniseur and for me Fosters really sits snuggly in the middle of the road. Its hard to get overly excited by it and yet its a good reliable beer (widely available and no surprises).

Its a good hangover beer for those hair of the dog scenarios as its a nice weakish 4% and tastes like it. I kno the tone of this review sounds more negative than positive but i have to say, theres something cosy and familiar about this lager although i suspect thats just my own sense of nostalgia, as ive got a lot of good memories from this beer whilst being gently led down the toxic lane to drunksville over the years.

Fosters is quite cheap, my local offy sells 8 440ml cans for £6.50 and my local pub does a pint for about £2.20. Fosters now do an export variety which ive only seen in 330ml bottles so far. Its 4.9%, i havent had the pleasure of supping one yet but my brother (not such a beer expert as me if i do say so myself, ahem : P ) says it tastes like swill.

Summary: Plenty better beers but Plenty worse as well
