How could what the Aussies refer to as "Australian for Beer" and what accounts for 55% of Australian beer sales, possibly have been invented by two Irishmen?

Well facts are facts and it is clearly listed on Fosters Homepage at www.fosterbeer.com, that two Irishmen, with the surname of Foster, started the Foster Brewing Company in Australia in 1888. These two Irishmen were originally from America and they have brought with them the brewing skills to mass produce lager beer.

After a few years, due to lack of capital, they sold their company to a local syndicate that has risen to become the Fosters Brewing Group.

Foster's is a bottom fermented lager beer based on the Germany style. When poured it produces a thick creamy head and has a hoppy taste that is not very over elaborated, which is usually not the case with German beers.

It is relatively light bodied and crisp. Not to strong and not to mild. Just right you may say.

Fosters is part of the Carlton & United Breweries Ltd, which is one of the largest brewing companies in the world and has a total of 50 different brands in it's portfolio.

Foster's is brewing in eight different countries and is available in 120 countries worldwide, which makes it conveniently available almost wherever you go.

Here in the U.K. it is brewed under licence by Scottish & Newcastle (so corroborates my heading in full).

Foster's has grown to become the U.K.'s number two most consumed brand and represents 8.2% of the total beer market in the U.K. Last year sales were at a staggering amount of over £1 billion (One Billion Pounds).

Foster's today accounts for one in every four pints of standard lager sold in the U.K..

The Amber Nectar's rise in popularity can be attributed to several factors. First and foremost and prior to it being available on tap, the major attraction was it's oversized 500ml. Cans. This can wa
s and still is referred to today as the Fosters Oil Can.
Secondly the advertising campaign launched by Fosters was extremely aggressive. Millions were spent and their ads were usually so full of humour and very well thought out.

Finally the beer itself is of the utmost quality and excellent taste. So when you combine all three factors it is not surprising that Fosters has risen to become the star that it is today.

Personally my likes for beer were restricted to my favourites of Heineken and Carlsberg and more recently Hoegaarden, which adds a different dimension to the taste of beer.
I would rank Fosters as just about on level par with Carlsberg, which therefore puts it down officially as my second favourite.

To really enjoy the true taste of Fosters it just has to be served ice cold. This is sometimes lacking when had from the tap, but if you do get it real cold there is nothing like it.
Alternatively you might consider going for the 500ml cans or the 33cl. Bottles (Export quality). With these you can achieve that ice-cold serving to perfection.

It is an extremely refreshing beer, which goes down very easily and is a great session beer.
It’s near perfect amber colour also provides additional drinking pleasure.

Fosters usually goes at between £1.50 to £2.50 a pint. The price all depends on the pub concerned and the general location. Generally Fosters is sold at slightly higher than the U.K. owned brands.

The 500ml cans go at around 65p individually or alternatively you can pick up 8 cans for a fiver.

The 330ml bottles are a little harder to come buy but can be found easily over the Internet and cost around 49p a bottle or alternatively you can get a case of 24 bottles for £11.50

Overall Fosters is a beer that will only grow in stature here and in the rest of the world.

Great Australian Beer even though two Irishmen created it.
