Advantages: Consistency. Natural ingredients to give great taste, colour and smell

Disadvantages: Price and sugar content

FRijj milkshakes come in a funky styled plastic bottle which has obviously been designed to perfectly fit into the palm of your hand for easy drinking. I'm not going to describe the packaging because you probably already know what it looks like, and if not, you can see it in the picture above. It has a nice bulging midriff to make the bottle appear wider and to tempt you into reaching out and lifting it off the shelf. For those of you who are environmentally friendly with green intensions the bottle and cap can both be recycled so long as the plastic sleeve around the bottle is removed, as this still cannot be recycled.

The bottle informs you to shake well before opening. I always do this but never quite understand why. Maybe part of it separates or settles on the bottom. As far as I can see it just makes it a bit frothy on opening.

For best results drink it straight from the fridge, that way it's so much more refreshing.

Opening the bottle is straightforward. Simply peel away the plastic clip holding the cap in place, then unscrew the cap. The cap can be replaced if you don't want to have the whole drink in one go.

As soon as you release the cap you get an idea for what this drink is all about. You will get an explosion of the banana aroma as it bursts out of the bottle, and invites you to indulge immediately.

The consistency of the drink is just about perfect. It's thick and creamy enough to give an overall impression of real quality and not just plain milk splashed with a few artificial colours and flavours. It has a very natural colour and not like it's just come out of the Dulux factory as is the case with other brands. It's very smooth and glides down the throat tantalising all of your taste buds.

The most important thing when considering a drink like this is the taste; and the flavour is perfect. It's just like real bananas. It's rich and and genuine, as if it actually contains bananas. There is plenty of flavour, without it being overpowering. It's not too sweet and not too bitter, it has just the right balance.

I wouldn't call it a thirst-quenching drink, in fact it's probably better to have one when you're hungry as it's quite filling.

The bottle states that it contains no artificial colours or flavours. Unfortunately there aren't any real bananas either, but at least the ingredients are natural giving a genuine colour, smell and taste.

If you're watching your figure and counting your calories then I'm afraid this drink is not going to assist you in your quest. One bottle contains 325 calories and 49g of sugar. On the plus side the fat content is less than 1%, which isn't bad for a drink containing milk. They are also a great source of calcium and vitamin B12. It's gluten-free so it's suitable for coeliacs. It's also suitable for vegetarians but unfortunately for vegans it does contain real milk.

I havn't included quantity as an advantage or a disadvantage because I know that 500ml (or almost a pint!) is a good quantity. A lot more than a can or bottle of fizzy pop. Unfortunately for me it never quite feels enough. I'm always left wanting more and always find myself draining the last few drops out of the bottle. I would never drink 500ml of milk or water, but downing 500ml of this seems ridiculously easy and I'm always left wanting more.

Unfortunately the price will put many people off buying it. It is quite expensive. The standard price is over £1 per bottle, so you won't realistically be drinking one every day. I rarely pay the full price as I think it's just too much. Instead I keep my eyes open for special offers. You will occasionally find a buy one get one free offer or something similar which makes it much better value for money.

The availability is usually good. You should be able to locate some in your local supermarket, corner shop, newsagent or petrol station.

The bottle tells you to keep it refrigerated and use within 3 days of opening. If you're anything like me then it will do well to last for 3 minutes after opening, never mind 3 days!

If you like banana milkshake and havn't tried a FRijj yet, then don't hesitate to sample one. I'm sure that you won't be disappointed. I used to drink other cheaper alternative milkshakes, but now I only drink FRijj. It is so much better than any other brand currently available on the market. Its perfect combination of the thick creamy consistency and incredible flavour blow the thin cheap alternatives out of the water. I won't go back to the other brands now.

Summary: Just a great milkshake
