Advantages: Great size bottle, stores well and has a lot of Calcium and B12 in it and is low in fat

Disadvantages: Packed with calories

When it comes to milkshakes I'm not a fan of them to be perfectly honest with you. I can hear you sighing from here and thinking why buy one then?! Well I'm trying to get some extra Calcium at the moment as I have brittle nails (that keep snapping and peeling off) and a spinal, bone condition and my Dr said up the intake or else so for once I did as i was told and bought products for myself which are calcium enriched

I saw these milkshakes in strawberry, banana, chocolate fudge and this flavour which is chocolate reduced to 49p in my local Tesco from £1.05 a bottle so decided to give it a whirl!

The Packaging....

White plastic bottle which is 500ml in size with splodges of pink, yellow or brown on it depending on the the flavour you have bought of course. On the front and the back of the bottle I'm told it is Frijj Thick & Fresh chocolate Milkshake that is the tastiest ever and contains no artificial flavourings. Other information on the bottle includes a list of ingredients, contact details for Dairy Crest Limited are given (the manufacturer of Frijj products), I'm told a bit about the product, and nutritional information is given as is the size. Nice enough, large handy bottle this is.

A Bit About The Milkshake According To The Bottle....

Made with fresh milk, rich in Calcium and Vitamin B12.
Less than 1.5% fat
No artificial colours
Gluten free
Suitable for Vegetarians

The Milkshake Itself....

Well as I have said already I'm reviewing the chocolate milkshake and to be honest I'd usually request a link for the flavour as I'd want to write other reviews about products from the range if I liked it.

Well I didn't like this for so many reasons so I haven't bothered lol. I expected a rich, thick hard to pour, thick creamy milkshake. I didn't get one. There's no denying it was a rich brown colour with a slight gloss to it, but it was incredibly easy to pour and gave off a nice fairly sweet if not artificial smelling smell of cocoa that immediately off put me!

Yes the milkshake had a little body to it in the way it wasn't transparent dishwater but it didn't look as I expected it to somehow but was easy to pour which was good and when in a glass it appeared light and like a bought milkshake type of thing lol.

Taste wise it's simply ok. Again nothing special and nothing luxurious. Milky it is and although chocolate flavoured you can taste the fresh milk and for sure this is best served cold/chilled.

It isn't too sweet, is chocolaty however after a few mouthfuls I found this to feel a bit powdery in my mouth instead of smooth and I started to feel my tongue getting a bit caked in flavour and that taste felt a little on the sour side after a while. The saving grace of this though is that apart from that it is well blended and not too sweet as I mentioned earlier.

Verdict.....

I can't deny it is chocolaty and if you or your children fancy a chocolate drink then this isn't only a reasonably healthy option but it is also not packed with nasties though it is packed with calories. However this isn't for me as to me it's a chocolate drink rather than how I envisage a milkshake to be!

If you want a nice milkshake, go to Millies Cookies. Theirs are lovely - made with ice cream and milk whipped up - makes this stuff taste like muck.
