Advantages: Taste, cost, calcium
Disadvantages: -
I don't eat many dairy products and I forget to take my calcium tablets regularly so when I fancy treating myself to a milkshake I use the excuse that they're a good source of calcium rather than admitting that I want a relatively unhealthy chocolate flavour drink. And when I'm wandering the supermarket looking for this relatively unhealthy drink I usually find myself picking up Frijj chocolate milkshake.
The bottle is very distinctive with brown cow print type splodges all over the white bottle which contains 500ml (approx 1 pint) of the milkshake.
On the bottle amongst the splodge pattern you advised to shake well with a diagram to make sure you understand. It is definitely worth doing this as you end up with a milkshake with a better consistency, a thick, frothy milkshake. When you pour this into a glass you are greeted by a dark, chocolatey fluid with a noticeable chocolate scent. The taste of the milkshake is, unsurprisingly, of chocolate, not a rich dark chocolate but pleasant nonetheless. And if you have shaken the bottle well it will be a satisfyingly thick drink, otherwise it will be closer to the consistency of milk. A chilled glass of this definitely satisfies my milkshake cravings.
And onto the nutrition bit...this is described as a low fat milkshake made with fresh milk. There are 77 cals per 100ml and 1.2g of fat so not too terrible. And as for my calcium excuse it turns out that if I drink all 500ml of the milkshake I will get 84% of my RDA of calcium.
A bottle of this milkshake costs £1.05 however they are almost always on some sort of offer - buy 1 get 1, 2 for £1.50 etc - even in Waitrose! So not only good tasting but also really good value.
There are various flavours of Frijj milkshake, including limited editions, but I regularly find myself returning to the chocolate flavour when I want a quality milkshake.
Summary: A tasty treat with a healthy bonus
