Advantages: very thick

Disadvantages: sickly

I remember first having one of these a few years ago. I am always drawn towards chocolate milk, be it Nesquik or those Mars shakes. The Frijj milshakes are something quite different though.

What are they?

Thye come in a range of flavours, chocolate, strawberry and banana amongst others. The shakes are sold individually and are are in the style of tradtional American milkshakes, thick and creamy.

The Packaging:

To open these you need nails! You have to pull off a little ring around the top, before popping the lid off. I sometimes struggle with getting the outer ring off. Perhaps they could make them with a screw-top lid or a foil one, it might make it easier.

The texture:

Pour one into a glass and watch it trickle out slowly and surely. I will use the chocolate one as an example. The milk comes out more like a syrup, it is thick and flows like a fountain of chocolate. Picture Willy Wonka's chocolate river and you might be able to picture how thick this stuff is. The milk is quite unlike a McDonalds shake though, in that it is not ice-creamy at all, more like a goo!

The taste:

First mouthful is shockingly delicious. There is an intense rollercoaster of chocolate sent hurtling down the throat, coating everything in its path. Teeth and tongue will be saturated with the thick ooze and you will need to swill it around to get every last bit down. The taste is quite potent, a heavy chocolate tang, followed my a creamy milky aftertaste which lingers. I do not find it refreshing, but more soothing on the throat. It is too heavy duty to be a light milkshake.

Expensive?

Yes, Usually a quid a bottle, though Tesco have started doing them for two for one of late. They are useful for parties or if you want a snack and don't want to actually eat anything, as the shakes are very filling. I have never finished one in one sitting!

Summary: sickly but mmm
