Advantages: Taste
Disadvantages: Price
I'm always keen to ensure that I have more than my 'five a day' and try to find different ways to do it. I was recommended the 'Fruitiser' range by a few of the women that work in my office one day when I was complaining about the lack of anything decent to drink in the work canteen. So, off I trotted to find out more.
So far, I've only had the 'Grapetiser', which, would you believe it, is made from grapes, so that is what this review will be based on. If I get round to trying the other falvours I will update this but I don't think I ever will!
Grapetiser comes in a nice red and purple 330ml can (standard soft drink size) which, to be fair, is not really that exciting, especially when compared to the loud and attractive designs offered by Coca Cola, Pepsi etc. Then again, this isn't a drink targeted at kids, its for grown ups so I can see why they chose the packaging they did. Its mature and sophisticated. Looking closer at the label I learned that this is distributed by Coca-Cola. This doesn't bother me but I know some people may find that information important.
The label also states that Grapetiser is made from 100% grape juice, has no added sugar, no added preservatives, is made from concentrate and is one of five a day. All good stuff, I think you'll agree. A closer inspection reveals that each can contains 221kcals and 50.8g of sugar. Now, thats ALOT of sugar, 56% of a persons recommended daily allowance, apparently. It does state that the sugar is naturally occuring in the fruit but I don't think this makes it any better for you? On the more positive side of things, it does have 0g of fat, 0g of saturates and 0g of salt.
Opening the can, you get that familiar but ever-reassuring fizz as some of the gas escapes. You've heard it a million times before but if the noise ever disappeared, you'd be heartbroken. The drink smells nice. Fruity. You wonder if it will taste as nice. It does. Lovely. You can really taste the grapes and it is clear that there is nothing unnatural going on here. It does taste like there are some other fruits hidden in the can but the taste is too vague to put my finger on anything specific. The can states that only grape juice is used so I have to believe it. I do have strange taste buds that try to play tricks on me every now and again.
This is a really refreshing drink and a much better alternative to normal fizzy drinks that are everywhere. It can vary in price but the average seems to be between 70-80 pence per can. Well worth it in my opinion. Don't be fooled by some of the flashy marketing though, this is just fizzy grape juice.
Summary: Nice Refreshing Fruit Drink
