I take my Hot Chocolate rather seriously, and given how I'm rather partial to the Options and Aero Instant Chocolates, I wasn't really banking on anything else coming close. The Galaxy Instant, however, is a nice addition to the few instant chocolate drinks that are actually worth your bother, as they are one of the few items that I simply will not skimp on - the cheap alternatives are watery and not very tasty at all, and so it's brand names all the way.

Like I say, it's not the cheapest one out there - it costs a hefty £2.10 for a 400g jar, which you think would last a while, but with the amount that I like to heap in (normally an extra spoonfull over the recommended 4 "heaped" spoonfulls), I can blast through the jar in just a couple of days. However, if made as the packaging describes (which is irritatingly almost the same colour as the font colour for the nutritional information!), one cup of this amounts to 115 calories per serving, which of course really isn't that much at all.

The main reason that this is just miles ahead of the cheap stuff is that it isn't saccharine and cloying like so many of the Tesco and Asda versions - it has a very rich and textured taste that doesn't taste like dishwater. The big three now stand as Aero (first), Options, and Galaxy - unless I hear pretty good things about any others, I think I'l stick with my three favourites, and never, ever return to the comparably disgusting depths of the cheaper stuff, even if it means I have to splash out a bit more when I go shopping.

Summary: Pricey but you'll see where that money goes
