Gambrinus grabbed my attention whilst in Romania because it has the same name as a Czech lager and I wondered what the difference was and if there was a difference, how they got away with using the same name. It turns out that Gambrinus is one of the oldest Romanian beers around and was first produced in 1868 and was produced until recently at one of the countries oldest breweries, it was also a popular brew to be drunk in Carú cu bere, a renowned beer house that was a meeting place for artists at the turn of the century and is a large church like building full of character.
