Advantages: Rich flavour, crisp taste

Disadvantages: Needs to be served very cold or it loses its crispness

Gaymers make lots of different ciders, including the famous Blackthorn and Diamond White brands, but their Olde English is my favourite.

It's made in the Southwest (in Somerset), a region famous for its love of cider, and its production of lots of the stuff.

The percentage of alchol in Olde English was reduced from over 5% to the current 4.5% in 2007, but it still tastes just as good, and being less alcoholic actually makes it more refreshing - even better on a hot summer afternoon, as it won't make you feel the need for a doze immediately after drinking it!

It has a crisp taste, is medium-dry and a lot more appley (if that is even a word) than many other common cider brands - it has a deeper, richer flavour than Strongbow.

It needs to be drunk very cold, preferably with some ice. Then, on a hot summer day, it can give bottled premium ciders like Magners some serious competition, despite usually costing a lot less!

Summary: Delicious cider, with more flavour than most, and cheaper too!
