Advantages: A nice change from standard cider and British to boot.

Disadvantages: Too much may make you fall over and sutain injury - drink sensibly!

I am not such a fan of lager but am partial to a nice glass of cider, especially in the Summer months although, who am I kidding, I'll drink it any time!

I have recently been drinking quite a lot of Swedish Kopperberg pear cider, having been introduced to this on a trip to Ikea, so it was nice to find an English version.

Actually, thinking about it, I'm sure we invented it! The label has some information about Gaymers and on the back says

"Established in 1770, Gaymer Cider Company has made its cider based on traditional cider pressing methods for centries. Made with English pears, this pear cider has a deliciously smooth and refreshing taste"

It comes in a green glass 330 ml bottle with green and gold labels on the front and back. The alcohol content is 4.5% and a bottle equates to 1.5 units (if anyone is counting as the NHS would have us believe we should!)

It does say serve over ice, but I am not that taken with this current fad for serving cider over ice, it just dilutes it! I made sure it was well chilled and then poured it into a glass - without ice! You could also easily drink straight from the bottle as you would with a bottle of lager.

The drink is an attractive pale gold colour, with visible sparkling bubbles, yet is not too fizzy. There is a distinct pear aroma and it is a crisp refreshing drink, not too sweet yet not too sharp either. Very pleasant, refreshing and easy to drink.

So I had another one. There's a recommendation for you.

I bought this in Asda when it was on sale for £2 for a pack of 4 bottle - bargainous! However, I think the usual supermarket/off licence price is about £1 to £1.50 depending on where you get it

Summary: Good old Gaymers - a great product.
