When I first began my job as City Analyst and Public Analyst in Edinburgh, Glen Grant was the most common brand of Malt whisky that we had in for testing and for preparing export certificates. The reason for this was, quite simply because of the 'protectionist' policies operated by our fellow members of the EC, particularly the Italians. These countries set up artificial trade barriers to 'protect' their home producers of, for example, spirits.
