Before you read on, please believe me when I say that this sort of thing doesn't happen often!! A couple of years ago, my kids were all at their Gran's in Scotland for a week. I was free, free, free!! I went out for lunch with a good girlfriend of mine to a really nice pub in Newcastle, County Down called Quinn's. We had a lovely, civilized bar lunch, and I even pushed the boat out and had a nice glasss of claret with it. Right then, how do I normally start my opinions off? With a piece of my history, and seems that I am a wee bit tipsy and I can't be bothered to change anything so here we go. My first experience of Goldschlager was not strictly Goldschlager itself. It was a drink called Strike. The drink is essentially the same, just a little stronger (about 50% compared to Goldschlager 43.5%, poxy). It was 1996 when I first tried Goldschlager, it was long before it became widely popular and available in the UK and my American housemates at university had bought a bottle back from the states with them after Christmas. They had told us of this drink "goldschlager" that I had struggled to pronounce and indeed it had many other names before I eventually got my head round the correct pronunciation. The told us of this drink that had little bits of gold floating around in it and we all really liked the sound of it.
