Advantages: Easy to drink, maybe.
Disadvantages: It breaks your legs.
Right then, how do I normally start my opinions off? With a piece of my history, and seems that I am a wee bit tipsy and I can't be bothered to change anything so here we go. My first experience of Goldschlager was not strictly Goldschlager itself. It was a drink called Strike. The drink is essentially the same, just a little stronger (about 50% compared to Goldschlager 43.5%, poxy). Anyway, too cut a long story short, all I can remember is phoning my mother up at two in the morning, telling her that I was very drunk and asking her what was she going to do about it. I think I woke up with a traffic cone on my head and my friend laughing at me, but it really scared me. Back to Goldschlager then. It's a tasty concoction, based around a cinnamon flavour. Very sweet, with a syrup feel to it and unholy strong (but you would never notice, and if you believe that). Some would say that it would be the ideal drink to really warm you up. I however disagree with this. You certainly have to drink a fair few pints (as a warm up) before even looking at this liqueur. Unsure of what this drink could really do to someone (including me), I decided to conduct my own little experiment. In order to create test conditions I went out and bought a bottle of it, along with some cheap lager to help me through the night (I'm not sure if it will help me though). My purpose is to write a detailed report at each stage of the test (after each glass). Please bare with me though, as I am conducting this experiment as I write. Shot one - The drink has to be drunk in short, quick shots. Allegedly, it was meant to be for sipping, but it somehow seems impossible (I tried it last night and I couldn't manage it, it gets harder to drink with each sip, so I just downed what I had). After a quick can of lager (to get me warmed up), I pour the liquid into the glass and hurl it down my neck. First sensation is the lack of ability to breath (w
hich I find out happens with every shot I take). The cinnamon taste lingers quite a while in your mouth, along with the very, very sweet taste. It certainly does warm you up though, leaving a lasting impression (some would call it pain) in the middle of your chest. Mental effects - Not much, a small amount of well-being, but negligible to the amount before the drink. Shot two - A deep breath and down it goes. Initially, similar effects to the first strike. The loss of breath is still there but it is easier to deal with. The warm feeling is back again, but a whole lot more pleasant, and not so much pain in the chest this time. Mental effects - Feeling very happy at the moment. Rather glad that I am writing this opinion and sharing my knowledge of this drink to the masses. Debi (my wonderful girlfriend) looks quite (extra) lovely. Shot three - I have decided to make myself a Black Russian (a cocktail of Vodka, Tia Maria and Coke) before I carry on, I feel that I may need it in the long run. The loss of breath seems to be a lot more now, hic; it's becoming very difficult to deal with, especially at home. The warm feeling is still there but to a lesser extent. All I can taste in my mouth is cinnamon. Mental effects - I am really up for a giggle. Debi seems to think that I am just acting silly, but what does she know? I am also wondering why the hell I am doing this (it's for the good of the people). Shot four - Was I talking about a warm feeling at some point, oh I can't remember. If I can drink this, I can drink anything (where's the nearest garage). Has someone turned the heating up? Mental effects - What was I thinking, I don't think I can do this for much longer. I'm very tired and it's on a school night too. People keep saying things that are just stupid, but very funny. Paul (my housemate is looking a bit attractive at the moment) Shot five - Went down like it was wa
ter, with a bit of a grimace. Proud look on my face, I'm king of the world. The heating is definitely on full; it has to be. Mental effects - Shouting a lot. Almost asleep (sorry for any spelling errors). I think that it's time for bed, really is time for bed. Beginning to look at the dog in strange ways. Can't get out of the chair, my legs have to be broke. I'll just finish the Black Russian and take a trip t the land of nod. Thud… Sorry fell off the chair. At this point, I think that I have achieved all I can for Goldschlager. I would like to round this up with my conclusion. It is deceptively strong. One of the few spirits that I can actually say that I really enjoy drinking. It is quite easy to drink, after the initial shock. The cinnamon taste is refreshingly different and although it's sweetness would put one or two people off, I'm sure that most would savour a quick dabble every now and then, suffice to say that it is a tremendously fine liqueur. On a lighter note, I have come to realise that I can't hold my drink, and I am wearing possibly the worst pair of beer goggles in history. Goldschlager however, gets 100% from me, love it. Nicely, Bigmama.
