Advantages: dark and deep taste, a classic
Disadvantages: bitter, takes some getting used to
When I first tried Guinness many years ago, I was slightly thrown by the bitter dark, but it has since become one of my all time favorites. If you like dark beer, this is the champion of them all. It's full bodied and fairly thick with a decent white head, which earns it the name "blonde in a black dress", something you'd hear on a pub tour in Dublin. This beer tends to be bitter, which can turn off the inexperienced drinker, and it's not heavily carbonated, which may turn off the average American Rolling Rock type. But if you like deep and lasting taste of malt on your palette, this beer is for you. Be careful if you're planning on having a few, Guinness Stout can pack a punch if you're not prepared. On a more factual note, Guinness is one of the largest beer producers in the world. Although it's a well known Irish beer, they own the largest brewery in the world in South Africa, and only the second largest is actually in Ireland. Guinness is available in just about any store that sells alcoholic beverages, so if you're willing to spend a little over a buck a bottle, go for it and experience a classic dark.
