Advantages: Lovely taste, good for a little tipple while you're cooking

Harvey's Bristol Cream is not something that I would normally think of buying but my mother in law got me some for Christmas along with a couple of sherry glasses so that we could have a little tipple when we are cooking for the 'menfolk'. I think this sort of sums it up, it is a little bit old fashioned, meant to be drunk as a little tipple and all in all a very civilised kind of drink.

Dutifully, I poured us both a glass while I was cooking lunch on Boxing Day and was surprised at just how lovely it was. The taste was gorgeous - both dry and fruity - and it left me with a lovely warm glow inside. I had a couple of little glasses worth and it really sent the meal preparations along with an extra bit of 'jolly'. I don't think it is something that you could drink all night long but it is a great aperetif and will definitely but a Christmas tradition in our house from now on.

On a totally superficial note, I love the colour of the glass bottle, it is just gorgeous. It can still be recycled (with the brown glass) and it just looks pretty with the light shining through it on my windowsill as it waits for my next family cooking experience.

Summary: Christmas essential!
