Advantages: Smooth and relatively good value
Disadvantages: Not widely available
Many people will not have heard of Heather Cream. Indeed, until September last year, I had not heard of it either, but believe me, if you like Baileys, you'll love this... On a weekend trip to Edinburgh, my partner and I decided to go to a whisky shop to buy some miniatures for family and friends. On entering the shop we were greeted by a huge whisky barrel topped with an open bottle of Heather Cream and several full miniature plastic glasses. I'm too shy to try things in front of other people, so declined a glass. However, when the lovely kilted old woman pointed out that it tasted like Baileys, I was hooked. Heather Cream IS very similar to Baileys. It is a whisky cream liqueur which is great over ice, but made with Scottish whisky rather than Irish. However, I believe that Heather Cream is actually nicer than Baileys. It's smoother and has a more mellow taste, and at around 10 pounds for a 70 cl bottle, it's better value too. If you like Baileys, then give this a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's not available everywhere, but my local Co-op has it, so maybe it'll be available in other Superstores.
