Heineken Lager

Description: Lager, 5% Alcohol. Brewed in Holland since 1873.

Newest Review: ... decided the UK shouldn't be so awkward and have stopped making the Heineken I know and hate. The new 'premium ... more

... strength' beer is a light year away. It has a refreshing flavour, slightly sweet but with no after taste, and a certain subtle sharpness. It certainly rivals the daddy's of the premium lager market, Stella and Kronenbourg. I finally understand why Heineken is well respected the world over... we've been drinking a poor imitation all these years. The only down side, it's also the same price as the other premiums now, so no longer a cheaper choice (like I ever would -choose- the old stuff). And ...more

Premium Review Heineken Lager: Reaches The Parts Other Beers Cannot Reach (518 words)
by - written on 04/02/02 (Very useful, 287 readings)
Rating:

Heineken is Holland’s most famous brand of beer and is the leading selling and most well known brand internationally. Heineken is one of my favourite beers primarily because it is available wherever I travel. As some of you may be aware I travel regularly to West Africa and Asia and Heineken is always available wherever I go, be it in cans or bottles. Heineken is a quality lager beer that provides a perfect balance being not too strong and not too light. The quality of the beer has never been in question although taste may differ slightly depending on the way that you have it i.e. in bottles or cans or from the tap. However the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Budweiser With Clogs On and A 'Freshness' Problem (397 words)
by - written on 29/10/01 (Very useful, 54 readings)

Heineken gets drunk alot around these parts. For that matter, so do Heineken drinkers. These parts are however university residences and Heineken is always 8 cans for the price of 4 in the local shops - Strongbow too - so its not that much of a recommendation. Most of those who do drink it claim that its alright for the price rather than professing their undying love for the beer which just about sums up the beer neatly: If you're getting 8 cans for a fiver, then its worth a look. When that is the best thing anyone can say about it though you know that there is something wrong with it and yes Heineken does have a number of things which do not go in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Heineken Lager: Heineken Special Dark: The Most Unique Dark Available  (182 words)
by - written on 23/09/01 (Useful, 97 readings)
Rating:

I like regular Heineken as an everyday beer, but I was absolutely blown away when I tried Heineken Special Dark a few years ago. This beer will be best enjoyed by the dark beer drinkers, but any beer drinker should really give it a try. Special Dark is a bit harder to find than regular Heineken, but someone in your area is bound to carry it. The most distinguishing quality of Special Dark is the richness of the taste. It is fairly heavy as a good dark should be, but it maintains a wonderful complex taste with strong hints of honey and malt, an unusual and incredible combination that makes this Heineken unforgettable. Heineken Special ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Part of my pub routine (163 words)
by - written on 02/06/01 (Useful, 272 readings)

I've recently found myself settling into a distressingly satisfying routine at the local. I buy a Guinness, drink it, then spend the rest of the night on normal Heineken. Partly it's because it's the only thing in the bar that's cheap yet doesn't taste watered down. I find that Becks has a nasty aftertaste, and don't even start me off on Carling :). It's like having to make love on a raft! (email me if you want a translation :). I would buy Heineken export but it costs about 30p more, so no way - that's into Grolsch territory :). But I have come to enjoy normal heineken because of its crisp refreshing taste and pleasant ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Heineken Lager: Heineken Cold Filtered Nondescript Lager (196 words)
by - written on 22/04/01 (Useful, 74 readings)
Rating:

Launched a couple of years ago Heineken Cold Filtered Lager seems to have replaced ‘Standard’ Heineken on draught in many pubs. Launched as a premium version of the old lager it now seems just a marketing ploy to increase the price of Heineken lager whilst having a product which is no better than the old one. I usually find the Heineken to be a nondescript sort of lager. Compared to others it does not have any distinctive flavours and is not particularly strong. It just seems a bit dull. Heineken is one of the most popular standard lagers in Europe and is the largest selling beer in Holland. The Heineken family are public figures and family boss ...  Read the complete review
