Advantages: It tastes yummy!
Disadvantages: None
I can't drink tea or coffee before bed as the caffeine tends to affect my sleep either keeping me awake or I end up having a poor nights sleep, I did try herbal tea for a while but I fancied a change so I bought some Horlicks light to try. I bought the individual sachets which contain 32g and cost a £1 for three sachets.
Horlicks light is different to original Horlicks in that it is made with hot water rather than milk. I prefer this because just before bed the last thing I want to be doing is heating milk.
Horlicks is a drink designed to help you unwind and relax before bed. It is made from malt extract and fortified with vitamins.
The ingredients are listed as; Wheat Flour, Malted Barley (23%), Dried Skimmed Milk, Sugar, Dried Whey, Milk Proteins, Calcium Carbonate, Vegetable Fat, Salt, Vitamins (C, Niacin, E, Pantothenic Acid, B6, B2, B1, A, Folic Acid, Biotin, D, B12).
To make the drink you simply empthy the sachet into a mug and pour hot water in. You need to stir this really well before you drink it. Otherwise what you get is a powdery residue at the bottom of the mug. When Horlicks is made it smells like digestive biscuits in my opinion, I also think it tastes like a less sweeter version of digestives. I love the smell of Horlicks so much so I buy a bubble bayth by Palmolive called 'Snug as a Bug' as it smells just like it. Horlicks also tastes like digestives but without the sweetness. Compared to normal Horlicks the light version doesn't taste that much different, it isn't as rich but the malty goodness is still there.
I am not sure if Horlicks has helped me to sleep, I do suffer from periods where I seem to get overtired and I can't switch off and lie awake for hours, since drinking this I do feel more relaxed in the evenings but I have changed other things in my routine to help aid a restful nights sleep too.
Even if Horlicks doesn't work for you it is still a great tasting caffeine free drink that will warm you up on a cold evening!
Summary: Aids a restful nights sleep?
