Advantages: 1 of your childs 5 a day!

Disadvantages: The Pineapple and Mango flavour is not so nice...

When I went to Tesco a week or so ago I spotted these on offer for £1 and being a sucker for something new and fruity I grabbed a pack of each and put them in my basket excited to try them when I got home - especially as it was warm I had plenty of ideas of what I was going to do with these fruity treats..

~*~ So What Are Innocent Squeezies? ~*~

Innocent squeezies as you would expect from the 'Innocent' Company are made of real fruit and packed into a little squeezie tube, nice an convenient to pop in your child's lunchbox and happily have them on their way to getting on of their five portions of fruit and vegetables that they are recommended to have in a day..

They might look like a Frube yoghurt in different packaging, but let me tell you they really are different, they are not creamy or yoghurty they are jam-packed with fruit and juices to make a refreshing smoothie for children..

~*~ Flavours ~*~

They come in two flavours;
Pineapples and Mangoes and
Raspberries and Strawberries..

From my experience with small children, most of them like at least raspberries and strawberries so you can guarantee that they will go down well! The pineapple and mango flavour however may not be to every child's taste because if they have never tried a pineapple or mango they are a bit of an acquired taste at first - but knowing kids they will be impressed because of the pictures on the packaging!

~*~ Packaging *~

The squeezies come in a plastic pot that has a coloured lid that pops on and off in a similar way to the lids on the boxes of sweets and chocolates you can buy at Christmas for a few pounds - which if you are holding the plastic tube the wrong way you can't get the lid back on which is quite irritating..

The squeezies themselves have either a pinky red packaging for the raspberry and strawberry flavour or a yellow packaging for the pineapple and mango flavour.. Each individual package comes with little faces and what I guess would be classed as educational pictures to make the packaging a bit more exciting for the children.

To open them is similar to the other tubes yoghurts and smoothies hold the top and rip - or if your anything like me, rip of the top and end up with the tiniest hole to get the smoothie out of and eventually end up exploding the packaging drowning yourself in smoothie.. So I recommend a pair of scissors!

~*~ My Opinion ~*~

Well given they are a child's smoothie they, come in a pack of six which covers a whole week at school plus an extra for an evening, and when on offer they are a bit of a bargain.. Regardless of that however, for a child this is one portion of their recommended daily fruit and vegetables so it is always going to be a big bonus for mums and dads filling their little ones lunch boxes.

For me the taste of them is a bit acquired, it states on the packaging that there are no nasties and no bits, unfortunately I fail to agree. One squeeze and you get a mouth full of smoothie that has the texture that unfortunately has bits in it - if they aren't bits then I have no idea what they are to be honest! It was mainly the pineapple and mango one that felt very much like it was full of bits, the strawberry and raspberry was not too bad..

The taste of both is designed not to be acidic for children but I did find that the pineapple and mango flavour did seem a bit forced and just a little bit sour even for me as an adult, so I can't imagine a child enjoying the flavour.. On the other hand the strawberry and raspberry version had a great taste to it, each flavour was distinct and it had a nice sweet juice with it, a nice addition to a lunch box..

Even better frozen, they make a great fresh and healthy ice lolly, which is what I've been using mine for when it was warm, it is the only way I can eat the pineapple version because you can just munch through the bits and get to the better tasting fruit juices!

I would recommend the raspberry and strawberry one for a lunchbox but avoid the pineapple and mango version unless you child doesn't mind munching through bits that Innocent say they are not including!

I do not have an nutritional information as my Mum threw away the packaging as space saving in the fridge, but they aren't going to be bad for you I would imagine!

~*~ Price and Availability ~*~

Now since I bought these from Tesco I haven't seen them so I am not entirely sure what price they would be now, but I got my for £1 so given the price of Innocent products normally I would advise they are about £2+..

They are also available in selected Sainsburys and Waitrose..

Summary: Refreshing ice lolly or lunchbox snack full of real fruit!

I agree the yellow one does have little bits in it, which i think are just pulp where it's been crushed, suppose it's hard to get rid of them (if you have had the innocent smoothies even these have little bits in), but i know what you mean my nephew is VERY fusssy and wouldnt eat anythign with bits in like that. The Red is lovely though :)

Great review.

I agree with you all the children I know are very suspicious of "bits" in anything. X
