Review of Innocent Smoothies one litre cartons .
I have always loved fruit and fruit juices but only really been drinking and enjoying fruit smoothies this year . One of my most recent loves in this field are the Innocent Pure Fruit Smoothies . I recently purchased a one litre carton in the Strawberries and Bananas flavour and was not disappointed .
The carton is a plain cream with the innocent logo . In the triangular shaped top there is the usual screw cap top in a gold colour . As you turn this it breaks the inner seal and you can just pour away . I find you really need to give the smoothie a good shake before pouring any time you use it but particularly the first time .
The over-riding aroma from this smoothie is banana but I find that’s the case with most smoothies . Presumably it’s because bananas have a strong smell . The colour is a deep pink . The smoothie has a really thick consistency when pouring and drinking .
The taste is fabulous , assuming you like the flavours . Along with the strawberries and banana there are pressed grapes , a small amount of freshly squeezed orange juice and a little squeezed lemon . The taste definitely has a sharp tang . Not too much so but tangy . The smoothie does have small bits in it but other than that it is very smooth and slips down nicely .
On the downside Hubby decided he was not keen on the flavour . Because of this the one litre carton was far too large and I wasted some of the product . I always hate doing this . The carton has quite a long shelf life in the fridge but once opened it needs consuming within four days . That should be fine if you have a large glass each day but if you forget you will have some waste . Next time I shall buy the smaller versions .
One quarter of the one litre carton of smoothie gives you the equivalent of two portions of fruit a day , so that’s not bad . It also gives you 50% of your daily requirement of vitamin C .All ingredients are fresh and not from concentrate .The packaging also states that there are no E numbers ,stabilisers , added sugars or preservatives so it would seem a good product .Even the bananas come from plantations which are part of the Rainforest Alliance .
A one litre carton of smoothie contains 1,100 kcals and a little fibre .There are no added ingredients just crushed fruit and pure fruit juices .Among the choice of flavours are cranberries and raspberries , black berries and blueberries ( yummy ) ,mangoes and passion fruit and pineapples bananas and coconuts .
The innocent company has only been around officially since it’s launch in 1998 . They originally started in a small way selling from a stall at a London music festival . The innocent company aim to use only fruit which has been ethically sourced and use environmentally friendly packaging .Innocent also put 10% of their profits back into the countries where their fruit comes from . Apart from supermarkets and the usual places Innocent have a range of vans which sell their products direct from car parks etc . They are covered in grass which must make them ‘Once seen never forgotten ‘
Most supermarkets now carry the full range of smoothies in their chill departments .Originally the smoothies were only in small bottles with a short shelf life and were quite pricey . Nowadays though they are more varied and better value .The business is really a rags to riches story and to my mind it’s great that their principles have remained in tact .
If you have not tried smoothies lately give them a go . They are reasonably priced and taste lovely . The fact that they tick all the environment and health boxes is an added bonus .

- 22/07/07 I've found an even nicer smoothie company but cannot quite remember what they are called. Do a lovely kiwi grape and melon one. I made my own melon and peach smoothie last night. |
