Advantages: Cheap, Don't Look Silly, Taste

Disadvantages: None

There are not too many, but there are times when I reach the bar in my local and decide that I don’t fancy another pint. Incredibly, there are even times on a night out when I decide that too much of that fizzy stuff or those vodka-laced cocktails will not do myself too good.

So what to have? Ask for a glass of Coke and the bar staff think they have misheard you and you obviously want a couple of shots of Smirnoff in it. And after they have filled it to the brim with ice you end up with about the equivalent amount of one of those mini-cans (you know, the 25p jobbies from Woolies).

It was not too long ago I realised j20. This is a fruit juice from Britvic that comes in standard size 275ml bottles. J20 is so-called as it contains, wait for it, juice and water. Gettit? Now, in my quest for a little research on this drink I wandered to Britvic’s website to gain a little knowledge to pass on to you folks. Amazed by what I found, you will not be. Here goes, in its full glory:

“ J20 is a 50% fruit juice drink with a new and different smooth texture. The drink is aimed at adults in the 18 – 45 year old age range and is drunk by both males and females. ”

Crazy.

So, to the flavour. J20 is available in three different flavours. Orange and Cranberry, Apple and Mango, Orange and Passion fruit and Apple and Melon. Each flavour can be easily identified by the different colour labelling and the colour of the juice (the glass bottle is clear).

Like the above said, the flavour is smooth. It is slightly thicker than normal juice and slides down your throat with ease. Make sure it is given a shake before being opened to get the juicy bit that will sit at the bottom moving. My favourite is Orange and Passion fruit which I believe
is the best-seller out of the four.

As for the drink being aimed at adults, well I can see where they are coming from. It is an ideal ‘I am not drinking but will not stand out in the crowd’ drink and can also be used as a mixer with Vodka. But this is also a kids drink. Go to your local pub on a Sunday afternoon and there will be more of the little blighters drinking j20 rather than the age-old Coke with a straw.

And finally, Britvic claims j20 is drunk by both males and females! I don’t know what research they took out to conclude that but I suppose I am in agreement with that. I suppose I an understand what they are saying, as some bottled drinks are associated with being ‘girly’.

Price wise, these can vary. JD Wetherspoons will charge you a very reasonable 99p for a bottle whereas more expensive pubs will be looking closer to £2. As with the trend with prices, the clubs will charge you even more.

These are also available in the Supermarkets in packs or four. Normal price is £3.99, working out at 75p a bottle. I have seen deals on these as well where you get two packs (8 bottles) for £6.00. I have bought these in the past, they make a great drink for that long summer day.

You may find these in some Newsagents as well but not many as they come with a metal cap (bottle opener required) and obviously you can’t just buy one and drink it. Except from Mr Patel at my closest paper shop who supplies an opener behind the counter (as well as a baseball bat, no doubt!).

Overall, I really recommend this drink. It is easy and very tasty to drink and is ideal when you just don’t fancy that beer.

Thanks for Reading

These are fab! My mum bought me a crate of 24 of them out the cash and carry and they're nearly all finished already! Eek!

A good review there. I've never tried a J2O before, but they sound nice. :-)
