Advantages: Great taste with coke
Disadvantages: A bit harsh neat
It's surely one of the coolest, most popular drinks around - it's Jack Daniels - a brand that's made Jack Daniels marketable even to those that aren't too into Whiskey. It's now frequently consumed with Coke thanks in large part to bar chains like Wetherspoons, that provide a free mixer, thus promoting the consumption of JD in a way that mutes that harsh Whiskey taste.
Still, even on its own, this is a premium drink through and through - it's something of an acquired taste for sure, as is true of most Whiskey, for it has quite a harsh burn the first time you drink it, but it feels very warm going down. For some, particularly younger people, though, a few shots in a glass can just be too harsh if neat - I recently drank a glass with my grandad, who has been a JD drinker his entire adult life. He enjoyed it and finished it after a few big sips, whilst I had to drink it quite slowly, and hide the fact that the taste was so harsh to my lips, having been reared on JD with coke for most of my adult life. My grandad, however, claims that the Coke "spoils" the taste of the JD, but it's all different strokes I guess.
JD is the best known Whiskey in the entire world - it even has a line of merchandise, such as a chess board, shirts (which I own), a flask, cards, and other assorted items. I also recall that Universities ran a promotion around their last big anniversary in 2007 where for every shot you bought, you'd get a "JD dollar", which could be used to buy the shirts and aforementioned items.
Neat JD has a harsh taste that will take time for any pallette to adjust to. On the other hand, for instant gratification, most people tend to mix it with Coke, and it's a lovely mix that, whilst maligned by purists, is an easy for anyone (of drinking age) to enjoy this lovely drink!
Summary: Lovely
