Advantages: tastes great - makes you feel like a cowboy!

Disadvantages: expensive, bad hangover

I am really not a big fan of whiskey in general, but this is a drink that takes some beating! I first tried JD back in 97 when I started at uni. At the union every thursday night, it was 'Cheese' night, and you could get a double JD and coke for only a pound! I was in heaven! And so began my love affair with this amazing Tennessee sipping bourbon.

I later began to buy it from the shops, and despite the high price, it was worth it to get my hands on the unique chunky square bottle, with its traditional black and white label obscuring much of the rich dark liquor within. Just holding the bottle, you feel part of history - I don't think the design has changed for decades.

JD has a sweet, almost aniseedy smell to it - not as harsh as other whiskeys, being more smooth and inviting. It is definitely a warming drink too. I find more popular brands such as Bells or similar, to taste sharper, and weirdly cooler when you drink them, and I can only ever sip at them. With JD it is easy to take a big glug - drinking it over ice, or stright up is probably the best way, although mixing it with coke is my preferred method, as it is the one I have grown accustomed to.

I would definitely recommend avoiding drinking too much of it, as like all dark coloured liquors, it can cause quite the hangover the following morning!

Summary: The all time classic JD is a treat for the tastebuds, but can be quite expensive!
