Jenlain Ambree ... With 7.5% alcohol by volume, this unpasteurized beer is made with 3 different types of malt produced from French barley, and 3 varieties of hops grown in Alsace. It is the torrefied malt that gives it its attractive amber glow and many-hued aroma.

It's brewed with top-fermenting yeast and is unpasteurized. I've said it before and I'll say it again, France is not a country that one would immediately associate with beer, but they do brew it. Granted, not in the quantity of choice, and most definitely not in the quality, of the neighbouring countries of Belgium and Germany, but brew it they do. And since I was holidaying in France, it would have been churlish, not to say downright un-francophilical of me not to sample as many French beers as was humanly possible in that short space of time. (Always maintaining a responsible attitude to alcohol consumption at all times. OK kids?)
