a nice treat which means I have to brush my teeth extra hard that day

Still on my quest to save money and bring food/drink from home out with me I spotted the can version of this KA black grape soda with 330ml cans on offer for 99p in my local 99p store. The cans themselves actually used to come marked at 39p, then went up to 45p and are now at an extortionate (lol!) level of costing 49p so 4 for less than £1 was a great bargain. I have been drinking this grape soda for years and it is a nice carbonated black grape soda drink that I really enjoy drinking! In terms of actual grapes I am quite weird as I don't actually like green grapes whatsoever anymore and I love eating the black grapes mostly and it definitely is a case of the darker the berry the sweeter the juice on this! In comparison to this fruit, this drink does have a more artificial and sugary taste to it but does have a subtle undertone of the natural black grape flavour. It tastes very refreshing, leaving me satisfied and is very thirst quenching as often I can never seem to finish a can in one sitting but more sip it over the course of some time. My partner says the drink smells like a plastic ball he had as a kid which was grape scented and I think this does probably sum up the smell of this drink! Opening the can the smell of grape does waft out and is quite strong to appreciate but this just makes me want to drink this more! Pouring the drink it is a deep purple colour, and does fizz up quite nicely but not too much so that it has a nice balance of bubbles so it is still fizzy without leaving me constantly burping afterwards! It says on the can a "taste of the caribbean" and whilst I have visited the caribbean a few times this drink doesn't really send me back there, so not sure why the brand advertises it to do so but think it is more the brand associates itself with that culture but nevertheless it is popular in our household! However I definitely drink it in moderation as it is soooo high in sugar! Each 330ml serving contains 47% of an adult's guideline amount so 2 cans and you have reached your limit for the day! Overall it is a really nice, grape soda flavoured drink which is really thirst quenching and tastes lovely nice and ice cold. Just don't drink too much in one day!

sparkling grape flavour drink with no grapes

When it comes to fizzy drinks cola and lemonade are classics but they can get pretty boring sometimes. At these times I often go for either ginger beer or a fruiterer drink such as Vinmto or lilt. One drink I do like now and again that is a bit of a guilty pleasure is KA Sparkling Black Grape manufactured by Barrs more famously known for their Iron Bru made from girders. KA is a range of soft drinks based on traditional Caribbean recipes and also includes flavours such as Kola, Fruit Punch and Pineapple. I've tried some of these but the black grape variety is by far my favourite. Its available in a lot of corner shops round my part of Southeast London and also in the ethnic foods aisle in most major supermarket, as s my area does have a large Afro Caribbean population. One reason I buy this drink is that it is a bit cheaper than some of the leading brands. A 330ml can costs 49 pence or less(I go it for 39 pence in Asda last week). I tend to buy the cans but occasionally buy the 500 ml bottle. Its also available in a 2 litre bottle. When pouring the drink you get a lovely very fizzy dark purple drink that is so dark it is almost black. The froth when opening the can is a rather attractive lilac. I spilled some by accident and it turned a sheet of paper a lovely lilac as well. The other thing to note when I spilled it was how sticky the drink was. Unfortunately the colour used to get this drink is E151 also known as brilliant black. This chemical concoction is not recommended for consumption by children and banned in a whole load of countries. Nice! The smell that wafts when I sniff it is a very sweet sherbet like scent. Its not got a grape juice like aroma at all. When drinking its got a nice fizz to it that feels nice in my mouth. The flavour is very sweet and reminds me of a grape sherbet I used to have as a child. Its very sugary (not surprising the second ingredient is sugar) and leaves a slight aftertaste. It can be quite refreshing to start with but I doubt I could drink a lot of it at one sitting , as the sweetness could get too cloying. One thing to make clear is that KA sparkling black grape is a black grape flavor drink and there are no black grapes involved in the manufacturing process whatsoever. (although there are some blackcurrant and carrot concentrate lurking in there.!). The nearest it has come to an actual black grape is if Sean Ryder has ever drank it. I am not sure what the actual flavour consists of as the ingridents just say flvourirng. Barrs have recently released a still black grape flavored drink which I have tried that has 5% black grape juice. Why can't they change the sparkling version's recipe to incorporate this 5% juice to make it less chemical filled. As it stands the drink is as artificial as Jordan. The other concern I have is the Sodium Benzine used as a preservative that could become addictive especially for children. So this is no no for more than an occasional drink for those with children due to the sugar levels and all the nasties in it would make a child totally hyperactive. Calorie wise its on par with most non diet drinks at about 1about 170 calories in a 330 ml can. I do like KA sparkling black grape as a change from some of the other fizzy drinks but do not have it too often for th sake of my teeth and and my insides.
