... case where Karlovacko were accused of dumping carbon dioxide in to a stream local to Karlovac where a dog died on the spot and his owner fainted and died within a month. As far as I know there is no outcome of the situation and to be honest, I hadn't heard of it until reading up on the tasty liquid today! This is a very tasty beer but it's obviously not great to line the pocket of murderers, however I will be taking the view of innocent until proven guilty for the moment!...more

Despite the fact Croatia makes a fair amount of beer, it is most likely going to be Karlovacko, Ozujsko or Lasko (Slovenian brand) beer that you are going to buy there in a pub or restaurant. Karlovacko is not too surprisingly made in the town of Karlovac and has been around since 1854, the brewery is currently owned by Heineken. Karlovacko is the biggest name when it comes to Croatian beer, it's a great beer for enjoying in the sun, with a nice hoppy taste, a fair amount of carbonation but not so much that you feel like you are going to explode, a small frothy head lies on top of the deliciously golden body.
