I am not a big coffee drinker but do enjoy the occasional cup and it has to be Kenco really smooth!
Kenco coffee is actually part of the Kraft food empire. Kenco coffee has been around since 1923 so is a well-established brand. I always try to buy food and products that have been responsibly produced and Kenco scores here as the beans used to produce the coffee are sourced from rain forest alliance farms.
The rain forest alliance is an independent environmental organisation that works with farmers to help ensure their farms are sustainable by paying a fair wage for example. The alliance also works to improve the quality of life for those living in coffee communities. Kenco now source 75% of all beans used to make its coffee from rain forest alliance certified farms. Kenco say they aim to fully source all its beans it such farms by 2010. Not only does the rain forest alliance help coffee farmers and their families but it also works to protect the environment and wildlife.
Kenco coffee is freeze dried. The arabica coffee beans used are of high quality. The Coffee beans are dried in long shallow rows to ensure they dry evenly. They are then sorted and blended and finally roasted. So what about the taste?
In my book Kenco really smooth really does live up to its name! The coffee granules dissolve quickly when you add boiling water. I have found with other brands that the granules sometimes remain after the water is added. The aroma is good and as you would expect, not as lovely as freshly ground coofee, but good all the same!
Kenco coffee does not taste too strong or leave any bitter aftertaste as with some other brands. Kenco really smooth suits my taste well as I don't like strong coffee. However if you like something stronger then Kenco also make Kenco really rich. Kenco also made a cappuccino version and a decaffeinated coffee.
Kenco coffee is widely available and at the moment costs £2.58 for a 100gram jar or £4.98 for the larger 200 gram jar. The decaffeinated version is slightly more expensive at £2.96 for a 100-gram jar.
Overall I think Kenco really smooth is a great tasting coffee at an affordable price.
